Description
Dermott will need to be ready for top pairing minutes next year, Liljegren should be ready for a top 4 role, or at least a top 6 role. Gudas should complement Sandin well on the bottom pairing, and add some grit and toughness to the lineup. There's no room to resign Barrie, if its a choice between Muzzin and Gudas or Barrie, I'd go with the aforementioned. If Nylander has a monster year (30 goals, 80 points), he could be trade bait for a top pairing d man, although I think the Leafs will want to hold on to him if he does.

He's making 2.345 mill this year so a slight pay raise.

Kind of depends on muzzin and Ilya Mik. All the teams are handing out big paydays to defensive rfas at like 6-7 million, and Muzzin will probably want that much or more as a ufa. And if Ilya can score 40ish points or more he wont be signing at 1.2 mil and not for 2 years but everything else is realistic.

That's what the Caps are paying him but there's retained salary, his AAV is 3.35M so he'd probably be looking for a raise based on that figure

Young Dmen and rfa’s in general are taking all the money. Unfortunately that leaves little for the vets. Something has to give.

Why not just ditch muzzin... slot dermott in his spot and go to free agency for a top pairing rd at around 6-7 mill (given the cap goes to like 83 mil)

Muzzin can put up 40 points and is very defensively responsible. I see Dubas wanting to bring him back.
