Risto is worth like a first, TT about a third, then you're getting Kase and Sprong for a 7th...? sry... not fair

Risto is worth a lot more than a first, you're just undervaluing him like literally everyone on here (Honestly I do think this trade is a little rich for him but still he's worth more than most people are willing to admit) Trade would look a lot better if it was risto for kase + a pick

I wouldnt want to give up a first for a guy that can't play defense, especially if I'm also giving up a similar caliber player (better, but im not going to argue that) at a position of just as much need, and Kase is on a STEAL of a contract, and I'd much rather prefer to get a DFD to mentor Guhle not a forward that plays RD, and this first will probably end up being a top 10 pick in a stacked draft which by itself is a massive overpayment for that entire package

Oh you're one of those "ritso can't play defense" k you don't watch him at all, arguing further would be pointless

Okay, let's assume Risto CAN play defense -- better than Montour, whom he's replacing. He still isn't worth Anaheim's 2020 first, and including Ondrej Kase in that package makes the trade even more egregious. Larsson (a former first-round pick who is now maturing and NHL-ready) and Sprong is a perfectly reasonable package for Ristolainen.

Depending on where that pick is, he is 100% worth it and more

All of these trades are hideously negative for Anaheim.

Ristolainen is worth somewhere around a first-round pick plus, in isolation, and we don't need either Thompson or the seventh. Kase plus the third is about right, but we're not trading Ondrej, and we're not trading this year's first due to the possibility that our fan hopes and expectations for this team don't come to fruition.

Trading Max Jones for that garbage is absurd.

Trading Larsson for Johnson and a second is undervaluing both Larsson and the relief Pittsburgh would be getting for escaping Johnson's contract. Rowney for Johnson and the second is about right, or Larsson and a fourth-round pick for Johnson, an A-prospect RD like Addison or Marino and a first would be about right. I don't think Pittsburgh makes either of those trades.

Sherwood has a higher upside than Brown, not to mention the fact that he's already a better player, so no thanks on the last idea.

Well, I think you're going to be sadly disappointed when Botterill finally does move him.

Botterill won't trade him for crap, he's not looking for ROR 2.0

What about Kase straight up? Maybe with a small addition. That's where I have him valued.

First of all of the teams in the NHL the Ducks may be the least likely to trade for Ristolainen. IMO if they wanted him, he would have been part of the Montour trade.
Second, I think Betterall is very happy with with his defensive depth. Imagine having 3 NHL quality defensemen injured and still able to put six on the ice.
Third, I know the Ducks are high on Kase, but IMO if Ristolainen is traded he will be moved for a 60 pt forward.
Fourth, we can complain about Ristolainen's defensive play but he still got 24 minutes of playing time for his 4th NHL coach.
Fifth, big players take longer to develop and defensemen take even longer. Look how old players as Letang, Burns, Carlson, Chara were when they learned how to play defense. He has 4 consecutive 40 pt seasons, plays very physical, hardly ever misses a game and can QB the PP. I will be very surprised if he is traded for less than the above, but that is my opinion and we all know everyone has one and we all have a but whole.

I agree. However, I think you are undervaluing Kase by quite a bit. I would recommend watching the SJ vs ANA highlights to see the kind of player Kase is when healthy. He's got all the makings of a 60pt+ player, but just hasn't been able to stay healthy. If he manages close to a full season this year, I very much doubt he'll be moved for a player like Risto. The kid is dynamic, but GMBM is clearly frustrated by the number of man games lost due to injury and wanted to add some durability to line-up i.e. the Faulk trade. If Kase can demonstrate an improved level of durability, then there really is no need to move him and his value skyrockets.

In any event, we're doing ok now. I don't think BM will make a play for Risto unless we really start to struggle/injuries to core D-men.
