Is this confirmed? Gauthier and Shore over Spezza?

I'm excited for Timashov. His q scoring was actually excellent his draft year and I was hopeful for a late round offensive steal, but he appears to have put the work in to make his way up as a checker. Who knows maybe the offense finds it way too!

While I only watch a period of Spezza, Gauthier and Shore both seemed more involved than he did when I have watched them. For a 4th line 3 hard workers who are good defensively and can kill penalties is everything. I think Spezza may be asking for a trade or will get waived soon.

You missed a lot then. Spezza looked good so far. Shore hasn't done anything to deserve to beat Spezza out, and sitting him in the opener after taking a min deal to play here (when someone would have pad more) against his old team is the most Babs move I can think of.

Don’t think anyone agrees with it but that is what Babs is doing.

Wouldn't the most Babs thing be to play Spezza over a younger better player? This is actually the least Babs thing I can think of. He always plays the vets too much, its why Dubas had to get rid of Hainsey and Marleau (well that was more about salary) but you get my point.

Only in the Leafs world does this even register. Spezza is 36 and isn't really good anymore. He is slow, but can win faceoffs, but so can Shore and Gauthier. He was supposed to help the 2nd PP unit but who's spot does he take? Kerfoot, Kapanen and Nylander are all much better than him at this stage of his career, and it looks like they will have Muzzin and Barrie on the blueline of that unit. So where does he fit? He isn't good defensively, at least not as good as Gauthier or Shore so why should he get the spot? Unfortunately his time is coming to an end.

Can't answer your question. I'm sure Babs wants a Spezza in the lineup so he can have a right handed player for face offs in the right side defensive zone. With offensive teams able to pick the face off dot more often...faceoffs might be more important this season.

The most babs thing ever is a mindnumbeningly stupid decision that only he could galaxy brain himself into thinking is the right one.
Remember that babs sat Modano in the last game of a season when he was at 1499 gp. Modano never played another game.

He must have a thing against former sens captains. I guess that makes him the biggest leafs fan out of all of us?!?

I was just talking about that with someone the other day. TO has a lot more faceoff versatility this season. Tavares and Hyman (When he's back) give Babs his Righty/Lefty Faceoff help although Tavares will probably take the majority for that line. Matthews and Nylander are both great on their strong sides. Kerfoot likely will take all the faceoffs for his line but on the 4th, they will have Spezza/Shore for righties and Gauthier for a lefty. That is a lot of good faceoff men.

That was a dick move for sure. This though is different. I am not at all loyal to Spezza, if he isn't the best option and I don't think he is, then I wouldn't put him in either. Spezza isn't good defensively and isn't really good offensively anymore. He's also slow. Plus we are talking about the 4th line. I'd rather see guys that can skate, cycle and wear down defenceman and kill penalties. Spezza isn't really any of that at this stage. He isn't going to get 2nd PP time, so whats the point?

You clearly didn't watch him lol. Spezza was doing everything you just described, and shore wasn't doing any of that better or even as well as Spezza was.

Babcock’s just showing everyone who’s boss. Spezza has already been confirmed In The lineup for Friday against the blue jackets. When the hot topic is your fourth line right winger and second unit P.K. all is well. Nothing to see here move along.

When I first heard that Shore was going to start instead of Spezza the first thing that popped into my mind is that he may part of a trade and the other team wanted to see how Shore does in a game. Just a thought.

Babs is kind of a dick though. He scratched Modano so he wouldn't get his 1500th game.

As I mentioned, I didn't really see much of Spezza. He's never been a defensive player though. I don't really care about this though. Its the 4th line centre/winger.

I think the fact that it ultimately doesn't matter is why it's such a slap in the face to a vet like Spezza to not start in the home opener against his former team.

This had to be a decision driven by ego, Babcock was giving Marleau big minutes in the playoffs 6 months ago.

He still has plenty in him offensively. Gauthier is more big than good defensively. They had Moore out their on the second pp tonight. That is crazy. Spezza would make a lot of sense.

The fourth line being a defensive banging line that can't score is so unnecessary. All the top 3 lines are responsible defensively. Use the fourth line for sheltered youth offense.
