Samsonov needs NHL starts to see if they can let Hotlby walk in 9 months. Copley is simply okay, but his main role at the moment is as exposure requirement for the Seattle Expansion Draft. If all goes according to plan, the goaltending tandem to start the 21-22 season will be Samsonov and Vanecek. No Holtby or Copley.

I am thinking that it will be $168,649 savings... (suspension for 4 days)

However, last year this site's man pages calculated correctly, but the AGMs did NOT account for Wilson's suspension. So if they didn't adjust the software the AGMs will be off all year like they were last year.

Actually 5 days total of the season against 190 total pay "days" Kuzy relief is roughly $205K.

- I get the sense they may opt to trade Copley ASAP.
- Waive either Boyd or Stephenson (I doubt at $1M salary Stevie gets claimed, but Boyd may be of value to other teams at cheap $800k)
- They will also get roughly $50-75k relief for however long (10 days?) until they plan to activate Kempny.

All of that means once they choose 2 goalies and get healthy, that they can afford 22 players under the annual total cap figure.

My calculations:
10/22/19-4/4/20 is 185 days.
The 3 games are over 4 days: 10/2-10/5, active 10/6.

My bad, it does seem to be 185 total pay days for the season. But they could go 5 days w/o Kuzy on roster that means $210,811 in cap savings. Especially since they will have 3 games in 4 nights they won't need to immediately activate him on that next day. Can activate him day-of his first actual game.

Suspension isn't the same as IR. The Caps don't get to choose.

The "team" chose to suspend him upon recommendation of the league. The team can activate him before the 4th game...seems to me like that takes place after the 5th official day of the season? Either was it's $50k here, $50k there...the Caps will make it under the cap by a little bit...I think we're making the same point...
