i guess if you score 40+ goals, you get a bridge contract worth more than 6 mil

Teams aren't gonna go through this summer's RFA bull**** again. We've already seen some of the biggest dominoes fall in Keller, Chabot and now Cat. Definitely in the Team's interest to not let it get into the summer

Steal. More points than MM at his second season. He could have had more at the end of the season.

A lot of these RFAs that shigned these 3 year deals are still RFAs at the end, but they made it so that their Yr3 salary is very high ($9M here) so even though their cap hit is low-ish ($6.3M here) their qualifying offer will need to be $9M.

Man 3 (and 4) years from now when all these bridge deals are up there will be absolute hell to pay, but in the mean time it's a good deal.

Dubas should learn how it's done! A year early so no holdouts and a bridge so we can tackle this when the cap raises and Kane, Toews and Keith are off the books! smile

9 million qualifying offer seems pretty rough but for now it's a good contract.

Great contract for the Blackhawks! They have him at a really good cap hit while the expensive Kane & Toews contracts are running, and a QO of $9M for a 40G scorer is in line with market value. Skinner makes $9M in 2019 dollars, so by 2023 $9M may be the rate for 30G guys which based on his first couple season DeBrincat should be (at least).

You think that a 40 goal scorer wont start at 9mil in 3 seasons?

It really depends on how well he performs during these next 3 years. A year ago people were expecting Laine to hit closer to 50 goals and get a Matthews-like contract, but some sh*t happened and he got a low bridge. That could also happen to Debrincat, although it's a bit different situation.

According to Pierre LeBrun, the contract pays DeBrincat $5.1 million in the first two years and then jumps to $9 million in the third year. He’ll still be a restricted free agent when the deal expires following the 2022-23 NHL season (the same summer that the contracts of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith expire), so $9 million would be his qualifying offer if another extension isn’t hammered out by then.
