Options for next year

Created by: ChiHawk
Team: 2020-21 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 3, 2019
Published: Oct. 3, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I see Gilbert, Boqvist, Beaudin and Mitchell all being ready to step in. As such, Murphy and Maatta are expendable.

Toronto is only going to have 1 defensive guy signed, so think Murphy would be a good fit. As such, Kap could be a good fit for the Hawks on the 2nd line adding much needed speed. Shaw as he is aging should move to bottom 6 versus the expectation that he could be that 2nd line RW.

i think it would take a little moe to get kap. but like the addition. i assume one of those Dmen will either faulter, or be traded. i'd like another veteran brought in (4-5th dman).

Strome will be a interesteing one. does he want 3 years cap hit woul dbe less than 5mil. does he get 6 years at 5.5-6mil. not sure which is better.

the Cat signing is perfect. in 3 years Chicago can really restart their team. by then a lot is going to switch we will have a lot of money paying or Dmen, and need to find real value up front. i think this team is set to be a force agin in the league starting this year. damn im excited for hockey to be back!!!!

Leafs can do a lot better than Murphy if they were to trade Kapanen. Plus they will have 4 guys under contract. Sandin, and Liljegren are on their ELC's, Rielly is still under contract and they'll have Dermott signed as well. They are in fine shape. Also Murphy isn't really anything special and gets paid too much.

Murphy doesn't get paid too much and he's very solid top 4 guy; he was the best defensive player in the d zone last year for the Hawks. Kap is not returning a top 2 or even 3 defensiveman like so many leafs fans think they can get for him.

No reason to bring in another vet otherwise we wouldn't trade Murphy especially and maybe not Maatta. Just keep Murphy then.

I think you're right on Strome. 3 years at $5.25M is too much but also trying to be a bit conservative. I don't think we want to lock in Strome long term, let's play out our options. With Dach and a handful of centers in the prospect system, Strome could very well turn into a 3C for us down the road for us and would be too expensive at the price he demands.

Will be interesting to see where this team is in another year. I think 20/21 is going to be a good season for the Hawks.

Best defensive player for the team that allowed the 3rd most goals in the NHL. He's only top 4 on a bad team. He's not an upgrade. I don't think Kap will return a top 2 but he'll certainly bring an actual 2nd pair defenceman who would probably be younger and have an upside. Murphy isn't really anything special.

Murphy is a top 4 player on at least 50% of NHL teams...including the Leafs. But yeah, a winger that is 3 years younger playing on lines with A talent producing at .4 ppg and .2 gpg isn't going to ring the bell for a return either. Murphy for Kap is a fair trade period.

He's not an accomplished player, he isn't a top 4 in TO and he isn't remotely close to the value of a 23 year old with a lot of upside. There is a reason you are on here trading Murphy all the time and that reason isn't because he's a vital piece of your team. He has little to no offense, isn't a shutdown player and at 26 isn't going to somehow turn into something he clearly isn't. The players that are better than him, are equal to him or will be better than him in the very near future are Rielly, Sandin, Dermott and Liljegren. Why would the Leafs move someone as valuable as Kapanen, for a 4 million dollar bottom pair defenseman?

The reason I'm trading him all the time is because the Hawks have one of the deepest defensive prospect pools in the league and 2 of which whom are on the right and ready next year (boqvist and mitchell). We have a known logjam on defense with Boqvist, Beaudin, Gilbert, Mitchell, Vlasic....that's why. Murphy is a shutdown player...like I said, defensively he was the best last season for the Hawks and he's 26 not 32. Now you're going to suggest your prospects are all better? Let's see how that works out.

Murphy isn't good. He's less than Adam Larsson, who is also not good. Keep him or send him somewhere else.

Who may not even last the season in TO. Sandin is already better than Ceci. As is Dermott and in the very near future Liljegren. And you can probably replace Ceci's name with Murphy and the same applies. Keep Murphy or send him to a team with a stupid GM, like Edmonton or Vancouver.

Sure, but being better than Ceci isn't really an accomplishment.

...and yet here the Leafs are with Ceci and you're saying you wouldn't want murphy.

I have been pretty clear here that I don't want either. Ceci is currently on the team and cost Connoe Brown and Zaitsev to acquire while you are on here saying Kapanen for Murphy is a fair deal. The Leafs replaced Zaitsev with Ceci, they won't move a much better asset for another Zaitsev which is pretty much what Murphy is. I get you want Kapanen but it's going to require a quality piece back. Not a bottom 4 right handed defenceman you don't want.
