I would have said no yesterday and now with Larsson out long term any deal with Klefbom or Nurse in it has to be a firm no.

Oilers are in no position to trade either Klefbom or Nurse right now

Isles say yes. We can use the center depth and no big deal with Gagner since he'll come off the books.

Not getting drouin without giving up a good roster LHD ... drouin has more value than people on here think

I made this because I saw reports today he wants out and Habs are shopping him aggressively, apparently something has gone sour there. Habs offer to the Oilers was a deal similar to what I have proposed except no draft pick from Edmonton, no Puljujarvi, but Broberg instead of Samorukov.

Initial thoughts are : hard no on any retention and too many contracts going to MTL. Also I don't see a piece there that's really interesting or really moves the needle.

Assuming they take back one of Manning or Chaisson there probably isn’t a huge need for them to retain salary, just thought it would be nice for Edmonton because they are giving up a huge haul in Puljujarvi and Samorukov, two players on very low salaries.

The problem with retaining on multiple seasons is that you handcuff yourself in the future when you might need that space ( TOR retaining on Kessel comes to mind). I would definitely prefer taking Manning to retaining.

The biggest issue with Puljujarvi is that he hasn't really looked like much in the NHL so far, and no one knows what he'll be. From what I read Samorukov looks like a nice prospect who's still pretty raw, and a bit hit or miss. IMO the Habs prefer 1 piece with more certainty rather than several question marks.
