Robbing Peter to Pay Paul

Created by: OldNYIfan

Initial Creation Date: Oct. 3, 2019

Description
Well, Adam Larsson is out until 2020 and lots of Edmonton fans are busy trying to replace him. I think that this trade is fair value if you consider Ristolainen as highly as many Buffalo fans. Edmonton gets the fill-in for Larsson (who is signed for one more year than RNH), an eventual replacement for RNH, and an improvement in next year's draft. Buffalo gets the real #2C they desperately need and move a player who probably isn't in their plans. I think that this is an easy "Yes" for the Sabres, even if you subtract the third, but because Edmonton doesn't have real depth anywhere, I think it would be very short-sighted of the Oilers do this.

As my drill sergeant used to yell, "Don't panic! Panic kills!"

You can consider this trade both with and without the third, depending upon how highly you value the two principals.

I think Sabres fans will be opposed to this, but you cannot tell me that this isn't a much closer deal than RNH+Puljujarvi for a collection of spare parts.

Only thing I'd change immediately is that the conditions on the 2020 3rd regarding the Neal trade are still up in the air. I'd switch the pick to 2021 and make it conditional on the Flames not receiving Edmonton's 3rd. If that happens, Buffalo's choice as to whether or not they want the 2020 or 2021 pick.

Risto sucks and Mittelstadt hasn't done **** yet (and looked overmatched) so far in his career. Assuming RNH stays with Buffalo they are easily coming out on top of this trade. In fact this could almost look as bad as hall for Larsson very quickly if that happened.

Too much. Rnh is on the shelf above where we should be looking. If the add to ristolainen is mittelstadt, we are looking at the wrong players.

You go a couple levels down and maybe there's something around Sobotka for Gagner, but that doesn't fit Edmonton's blue line?

Right you are pal. 40 point D just plain sucks. Mittelstadt is pure garbage too since he only got 25 points in his rookie year. Big Logics

Oilers can have Bogo at 50%, hes basically healthy. All I'd ask is a 4th

Well, since I'm getting grilled from both sides, it must be a good trade.

Yes, my point is that even if you believe that the trade is even (which you don't), Edmonton shouldn't do it.

Mittelstadt has played one season... He was drafted as a top 10 pick, played great in college , and was a beast in world juniors (which usually translate to a lot of NHL success). it would be idiotic to give up on him now when the Sabres arent at the point to go all in.
Just a curious question, what do you think Mitts value is compared to guys like Vesalainen and Tolvanen

Since Larsson is probably only out for 6-8 weeks (late November / early December), I agree with your drill sergeant: don't panic.

IOW, Edmonton doesn't do this trade.

Haven't seen the others so I don't know. I never said mitts would never be good, just like Larsson is a fine dman. I simply said that mitts coming back for rnh would be really bad value for edm because risto ****ing sucks chunks

I agree that Risto isnt great but hes not like Alzner or something. He still has value and i could certainly see him improve his play a lot in a new system

Dude. He is worse than zaitsev 5v5. His only value is on the powerplay.
