Was this a good signing?

this model is bound to change. Eventually teams will realize how bad of a mistake it is.
Either the contracts won't be guaranteed in the future, or shorter deals are coming.

Last CBA the NHL wanted 5&6 year contracts instead of 7&8 like we have now. They acquiesced but I think it 100% will be instituted this time around. Maybe even 4&5.

With the absence of trade protection this could easily be a Seattle bait contract. But it also seems like they like the player, and they did give up a good haul to trade for him. When compared to 1Cs around the league this a steal $$wise. It is long and might not age well but he also may have value around the league and bring some return with it if they move him, or they decide to leave him for Seattle. I wonder how blues fans feel? He def didnt produce much in the playoffs last year

It’s a great contract term is maybe a year or 2 over but he is 28 this will take him till he is Steen’s age. A bit iffy but I will say he could be a very great leader for the team.

He's such an integral part of their roster that they really couldn't let him walk away next summer. Pacioretty makes $7M but on a 4 year deal. The term is tough here, but they won't have the cap space to overpay him on a short term deal.

STL has to be one of the league's oldest teams at this point. Not many key players under the age of 25. Actually, none of their 10 or so best players are under the age of 25. At least Dunn and Thomas are still on ELC's.

He's not a 1C. Not saying 6.75m isn't a bad deal for a 2C. I doubt if Seattle will want him for 6 years. For Blues fans, he better age well. But so many of these players that signed as UFAs or near UFAs better age well. Tavares, Karlsson, Kopitar, Doughty.

They're middle of the pack as most of their best players are 25-28 years old. Only key players for them above 30 is Perron.

IMO he should have been the Stanley cup cap casualty. Good player but should have been traded this offseason or this year sometime for young cheap assets.

AAV is fine. Term is awful with the style he plays. Not too mention, what happens to Schwartz after next year? What does Dunn sign for? Petro? Parayko?

Only benefit is that I see Steen being bought out and Allen traded. Perron likely taken by Seattle.

Imagine being Perron and being taken in the Expansion Draft both times from the same team lol

Totally agree about the players who need to age well to warrant their current deals. Stl uses him as their 1C tho and will most likely continue to do so for at least the first half of this deal.

Players fought their asses off last time when they tried to lower the max years, I expect they do the same next time and a lockout could be dependent on that.
