Looking to the future - a lot of space to work with

Created by: Oilyboy
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 4, 2019

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Because it will kick in in 2 years, will have to be higher cap hit since the % value to the cap will change with Seattle's team. But a nice comparator. Also Faulk/Morrissey are good comparisons for Nurse, so that's what I used here.

There should be enough space to sign an actual starting goalie, as well as sign a legit top 6 RW. Not sure who will be UFA at that time, but have used two fitting examples here.

The 2020 1st round pick will likely be with the team too. Who do you project that is?

I won't even try to project it, but hopefully a player who can fit in the middle six there in place of another player (perhaps at 3C, meaning Marody is traded for other assets and McLeod is 4C or something like that).

Sorry, forgot to quote you.

Honestly if Ken Holland didn't add or lose anyone on this team in the next three years, then they could honestly still be a playoff team (maybe a starting goalie would be nice though)

Hell yeah I'd love to have either of those two. What a draft it looks to be...where players of that caliber could come in around the 10th pick (where I think the Oil will finish...again)

Yep. This year projected here is the year where I think McD needs to be convinced the Oil are contenders. I think if Holland develops very carefully, and signs a good goalie and a good RW, then its all there. But...still a lot of good decisions have to be made.

Draisaitl would like that! Stutzle has started off well, it'll be interesting to see how he progresses in the pro league this year as he's never played a very high level of competition up until now.
