13m for Barrie and Muzzin. Way too much than the Leafs want to afford. Rather keep Dermot, Hyman and have lots of cap to sign/trade for another two competent Dmen.

This has been his MO from the get go. Hates seeing young stars make money cause he likes the idea of giving term and big contracts to guys who will be declining in the near future.

With that said, man did Muzzin and Barrie look sick on Wednesday.

Barrie was easily the best player on the ice against Ottawa... he keeps that up he'll get more than 8x8 which is where hes sitting around now

Unfortunatelly thats your reality right now.

Assuming STL, CGY and NSH will cement only Ds worth going for next Off-season, seems like TML are forced to operate with what they have.

Its a wondering question, not something that i would do, and you cant say Muzzin and Barrie werent looking like Pair that can bring you all the way to the Finals....now the second such Pair was lost with 4M "New Era" overpayments, where Rielly would finally got a decent complement.....

Explained in the post above.....with Dermott 2,5M plus you are left with 10M for the rest two. Will there be any in FA for that money and with the skills required ? I dont know...cant figure what Dubarellis plan is....

I would love to see Muzzin come back for 3 or 4 years if its at or under 5.5 million. As good as Barrie looked the other night, I think he'll cost too much and something more cost effective will present itself.

He was great but easily the best is ignoring a lot of good in a game that was for the most part very 1 sided. Ceci is as advertised though, not very good. One of Dermott or Sandin are going to force him to the bottom pair I'd wager.

Decent options for Rielly, Sandin or Dermott. You do understand that 1) young players tend to get better and 2) old players tend to get worse.

The "New Era" that you gripe about so much is a young mans game. If the teams you mentioned cement their defenceman, who cares. Pietrangelo is going to be 30 at the start of his next contract, I'd wager St Louis gives him an 8 year deal over 8 million a year. St Louis can be proud of their one cup but they are going to LA level disaster in the not too distant future. Massive money for guys in their 30s and term. How did that blueprint work for LA?

Trading Dermott away is mistake I dont see Dubas making.

Getting Muzzin signed for that deal is unrealistic.

Better D options than Barrie long term in UFA.

Emerging of Sandin just made him expendable, 900k Sandin doing the work for next two years that Dermott will do fro 2M+, ppl are yelling Barrie is top of the tops, so proly a question is will Dermott ever reach Barries level....

Always using logic, when questioned and pushed into corner i go to check Evolving to see how far off i am, they have him at 4 x 5,375M

the Ds in FA after 2019/2020.....always a question who will land there isnt it...

It would make more sense if he called you Mike Babcock. Hyman's Mom doesn't make much sense here.

Yep if Ceci doesn’t show something in the next 10 games or so I predict he becomes Mikes whipping boy. He has not looked good. This Sandin kid might be a player though. I’m not really familiar with Tyson Barrie since I don’t watch Avs games but man was he good in game one. The big problem for the leafs is if they need one more defender at the deadline they have zero cap space. I guess they could just trade Hyman.

Your chauvinistic and grammatically atrocious attempt at insulting me is both infantile and weak. To be honest, often, I don't understand what you are trying to say. Get with the times and learn put some more effort into both communicating and understanding where you are in history. It's not the late 90's where it made sense to overpay FA's each summer when there was no salary cap.

I’m not even a Babcock fan. He’s a good coach, has done a good job and without question loves Hyman. Pat Quinn and John Brophy

Dermott won't get traded. They would rather move an older guy out. Like 30 year old, physical, Jake muzzin, who will be on a bad contract at the end of this 4 year deal.
You don't want to give physical players term past 30.
Also the "New era" is shifting towards younger players, and the Leafs are not the only team to do that. You are probably one of the only people that talk about the new era on this site.

Who knows, Ceci isn't terrible if he's your 6th defenceman and who can say how the farm team does. Looking at Dermott, who's to say that Liljegren doesn't go to the Marlies, light it up and then get a call up later in the season and stick? Or what if Ceci does look not bad? Maybe good enough to move for a later round pick to a team that is desperate for NHL calibre defenceman? Send him to Anahiem if they are closer to a playoff spot than people think. The future is always in motion but one thing I think is pretty clear, Sandin is good enough for the NHL, and I think by seasons end he could be like Hieskanen was last year. A young guy that impressed at camp, stuck and became an important contributor by seasons end.
