I hope the islanders get shutout today

Created by: Isles777
Team: 2019-20 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 6, 2019
Published: Oct. 6, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Playing Boychuk over Dobson is criminal after boychuk looked slow as sh*t against the capitals and was responsible for the GWG by TJ Oshie. The only thing boychuk has over Dobson is man strength and PK experience. Obviously Dobson will get his shot (trotz has made it known that going back to juniors isn’t likely because it will stunt his development) but it needs to come sooner than later. It’s about icing the best roster each night. Dobson can step in right away and immediately be an upgrade over boychuk in the transition game, which the islanders could use.

I hope the islanders struggle offensively early in the season until A. They use their depth on defense to trade for a 2nd line winger or B. Call up Oliver wahlstrom, who has looked great going back to world juniors last season. He had 7 pts in 10 games in the AHL at the end of the last season + playoffs and he had a strong camp this year. Last night he looked very good in the 1st game of the season (soundtigers lost 5-1 but he had an assist). He has 40 goal potential and while he won’t be at that level with the islanders this season, he would be an upgrade and would make an immediate impact , especially with bailey or barzal on his line.

I was looking at their roster, what is the point of keeping a 19 year old as a healthy scratch?

He was scratched for the opener because he tweaked something and was only at 80%, according to trotz. They waived Thomas hickey (who has 3 years left on his deal) so they obviously plan to have him around for the remainder of the season, but they are being loyal to boychuk because he’s a “loyal vet”. The organization knows once they ease dobson in boychuk will be a regular in the press box so I guess they’re holding off letting Dobson make his debut.

Ok. That makes more sense. And wow, I just noticed that Boychuk has 3 years left. Eesh.

Yeah it’s not that I’m worried about him going back to juniors; boychuk has a terrible game Friday and doesn’t deserve to play tonight - Dobson gives them a better chance to win and I hate when teams don’t ice their best rosters because “loyalty.

Because of our other contracts on D and Dobson’s ELC, boychuks cap hit won’t hurt too much for the next 3 years.

We still don't know if Dobson is 100%. Why rush it? It sounds like Dobson is going to get into games this week.

Nothing says hopeful like giving up on your team before the second game.

Not giving up, just don’t want our future franchise D sitting over a 35 year old vet. So I think they deserve to lose.

You must be bitterly disappointed with their success tonight

The reverse jinx! In all seriousness, I’m pretty content considering boychuk had an awful night. Statiscally he was the worst islanders defenseman tonight by a lot. So I’m assuming Dobson will be in for him on Tuesday.

I don’t dislike boychuk, he’s just old (and slow) and is better suited for a 7D role. Let the kid (Dobson) play!
