Huge win for Ottawa. My guess is they flip him at the deadline for a much steeper price than they paid

Looks good for Sens at first but a 4th for a UFA that's probably not gonna sign after the season... I don't see a point in this. Rangers get cap space and 4th, extra body was to keep contract spots even. Team that might be last trades pick for rental in October... ok guess i just don't get it

Good deal for the Sens, they can probably trade him for more at the deadline.

thats a pretty low price to pay. they will probably retain more salary and flip him at the deadline for more than that

Great deal for Ottawa, although they're willing to bring in $3,250,000 more in cap space this year? Makes me think something else is in the works if he isn't getting flipped at the deadline

They're probably banking on him getting some premiere ice time in the top six on the Sens, and then flip him at the TDL for a better pick/prospect.

That makes sense.... but how would the senators think of that.

eh, i see this as a win for the Rags, which is an unpopular opinion. i thought they may have had to even pay a little bit (key word: little) to get rid of him

Cant believe the Senators managed to give so little for a top6.

Said it before and I'll say it again, Rangers GM should be fired.

Okay, let me get this straight. Ottawa, a team that should be working to finish last, picked up a contract with ZERO VALUE beyond this year (UFA) by trading a young asset and a pick. That makes sense. PLEASE, SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW THIS WASN'T IDIOTIC?

lol the Senators acquiring all the Russians (Zaitsev, Anisimov, and now Namestnikov)

they've gotta play a Russian line with Namestnikov, Anisimov, and Vitaly Abramov I need it in my life

high salary lack of production.

Hard to say this is a win at this point for either team.
He has to produce in order to really judge this.
Either way, I'm surprised Ottawa was willing to spend real money on a player.

"Top 6" ... What exactly do you mean by this?

He's got 31 points in his last 80 games ... he's an average defender at best ... and he's making over $3,000,000.

If anything ... Ottawa gave up 2 assets for a negative value cap-dump.

First of all Nick Ebert is not a young asset. He's a 25 year old former 7th round pick they signed out of Sweden to play in the AHL. He not anything beyond a 3rd/4th injury call up. Probably only included to keep Ottawa at 49/50 contracts. A 4th round pick is negligible in terms of expected value, especially compared to Namestnikov.

If Vladdy can be a solid middle six player for a couple of months in Ottawa, there's a solid chance they could get a 3rd for him at the deadline. Worst case scenario, he's a slightly better Mikkel Boedker who is gone at the end of the season, and you probably won't miss what you gave up.

With the sens bringing in 3.25mil in this deal, I wouldn't be surprised to see money out in the next couple of days/weeks. Maybe Boedker/Pageau/Tierney? Unlikely the sens want to add salary straight up.

I find it funny how all offseasons every trade on here from the rangers prospective involving namestnikov was considered outlandish when they ask for a 2nd from a contending team yet getting a 4th from the worst team is the rangers getting fleeced? If there was a better offer during the summer dont you think the rangers would have taken it instead of buying put shattenkirk and having 6M+ in dead cap space next year.

Rangers traded away a guy that they believe can be replaced by someone cheaper. Senators get an experienced player that will get favorable ice time.

I think the Senators win this. I agree with some people here that they're looking to deal him somewhere else, but there really isn't any rush on that. If he plays well in Ottawa it'll increase his value.
