My take on the 20-21 Caps

Description
Caps might have a tough decision to make on Orlov next off-season. I think he's going to have a really good year, especially since he's off to such a good start (66.3% CF, 66.67% high danger chances for percentage). Question comes into play with Alexeyev and Fehervary potentially being NHL ready next season.

Oshie goes to the third line, mainly because he has really great chemistry with Eller. A third line of Panik - Eller - Oshie could be an elite level two-way third line.

Caps could go a few different routes at goalie. I think Holtby is gone unless he takes a short term deal, but this is likely his last shot at a big contract. There's other UFA goalies out there the Caps could look at, but Copley and Vanecek could be backing up Samsonov next year. Caps also keep plenty of cap space for re-upping Vrana and Ovechkin the next off-season.

I thinking signing a guy like Halak to a 3x2 like deal would be wise and trading Orlov for a first rounder or a good f spec would be a potentially good move, good #3 d man.

Trading Orlov could prove difficult with his NTC. I think he really likes it in DC and is really close with Ovi and Kuznetsov. Maybe Alexeyev or Fehervary can play the right side?

Yeah Orlov looks really good this year so far (I know it's early), but I think he's gonna have a bounce back year without Niskanen. I wouldn't trade him. If you let Holtby walk, that alone buys you a lot of cap space to work with. I don't think you have to make a drastic move like trading Orlov, especially when you're going to be having a few ELCs on the roster.

I personally wouldn't trade him either, unless it was for a great package in return. I think it's more a question of what we do with our two near-NHL ready defensemen in Alexeyev and Fehervary. I think Kempny is too important to this team defensively to trade. I'd like to see either of Fehervary or Alexeyev play on the right side in Hershey to see if they can play their off-side.

I think we have time with both of them. Gudas will probably be gone next year, so there's a spot open there. And Alexeyev has unfortunately had some injury history, so you can't go all in on him just yet.

I think seeing if Alex or Fehervary can play RD might be a good idea, although I'd just worry about hampering their development doing that. However, the opening is RD so...might need to try it. If one of them can play RD well, Gudas can be let go and that saves even more cap space. Gudas + Holtby is over $8 mill in cap space freed up next year.
