A bottom pairing D and a 4th liner isn’t hurting the leafs. Plus, do you actually think Melnyk would take Backes’ contract?

This doesn’t hurt the leafs or help the bruins and pens. It hurts the pens, doesn’t really swing the needle either way for the bruins (although they’d probably rather keep their 1st and 2nd).
