I think the start Tavares and Marner are having is making Hyman pretty hard to move.

Marner and Tavares are having good starts to the season, and thats with Kappanen who hasn't played particularly well thus far. I would have Hyman on the trade block before i would Kappanen just due to their ceilings respectively. I think someone could make an argument that Mikheyev or Moore could slot into as a top 6 LW replacing Hyman and freeing up room for a defencemen and or scratches, then again Moore or Bracco could slot into Kappanens 3rd line RW spot if Hyman stays with JT and Marner, shoring up more room for that needed D-man. We shall see, but i dont think the leafs are going to play the entire year with Holl as the only scratch.

(Checks notes).....ah, yes, 3 of which are powerplay points. Marner is also minus 2, Tavares has 3 points, 1 being a 5v5 point. Kapanen? Zeros and minus 4.

They have not looked good so far at 5v5 which is where most of a players minutes come from.

Do any fans actually watch the games on here? Tavares and Marner have 3 5v5 points combined. 8 Points total, so they are having good PP starts to the season but have not been good at 5v5....with Kapanen as their winger. Their possession number and expected goals are also way down and they just haven't been the same at 5v5 as they were last year. Hyman is far more valuable than people seem to understand. Now I don't at all think he is the be all and end all, but he's coming off a 20 goals season and does stuff that currently no other Leaf can do. He creates space, he gets the puck back and he forechecks better than pretty much anyone else on the team. He's also better defensively and isn't afraid to go to the net. Kapanen has proven how important Hyman is by just not being able to do what Hyman can.

If Mikheyev can prove that he can do what Hyman can, and maybe Korshkov as well, then maybe Hyman becomes a guy who you'd want to move. For now, if anything, Kapanen looks like the smart piece to move out. Moore has contributed offensively on the 3rd line RW and the 4th line is fine as well. So really who is the easily the most replaceable guy on the roster? The guy who is currently in Hyman's spot and is also making a million more a year.
