Mess

Initial Creation Date: Oct. 9, 2019
Published: Oct. 9, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I seen this trade from @LetsTalkNHL and really liked the idea. I don't know if there is a way to remove the NTC from Ryan's contract as part of the trade so he does not need to be protected in the expansion draft? That would play a big part in making it happen. When Rust is off LTIR there would have to be another move made, possibly Bjugs out and McCann replaces him as 3C. Right now this team is a mess and really needs to do somehting.

You don't have to protect a NTC, only a NMC, idk what Ryan has the year of the expansion draft though... And I'd take JJ's contract before Ryan's, idk why PIT is adding

What is Pitt adding exactly lol? And Ryan is still a middle 6 winger that can be really good with Malkin. Jack Johnson cant crack a lineup that has a need at his position

both teams are giving up 7.25 million of relatively bad cap space.
That is why the penguins shouldn't be adding.
Personally I think the Guddy is worth more than Ryan on the ice so I wouldn't do this.

Most of PITs moves have been okay but the JJ contract is absolutely tanking us rn. No cap room at all and he’s literally one of if not the worst regular player in the league. Tanev looks like a solid middle six player so the 3.5 salary is okay. I think Guddy has been “fine” but damn that contract is expensive. Over 7 and a half million on the bottom pairing is an embarrassment. We could play Riikola/Marino/ruhwedel all for well under a million each and have a player actually worth 7 million. That would be absolutely massive for us with Geno gone.

Our hands are tied so what we’re doing is missing playoffs probably. If we can unload Guddy before the deadline and either buyout or bury JJ in the next year I can see us getting back in the playoff mix next year. Maybe then we can convince Seattle to take JJs contract (or maybe Hornys cuz that’s gunna hurt us bad by then)

This is the price of winning. Lose good players and guys get overpaid and the stars age out. Won three cups with this core though so I’d say it was worth it

I'm not opposed to taking EG, but JJ will not work for Ottawa, and definitely not Both. I think Gudbranson-Hornqvist makes more sense for both sides. More cap savings for Pittsburgh, and Hornqvist will fit better into a 3rd/4th line role as young guys push for top spots than Ryan will. Bobby Ryan with Malkin when he's healthy has the potential to be Heart Eyes

That's a good point and I agree that no team should want JJ, let alone with another anchor contract in Guddy. I don't mind Hornqvist and Gudbranson for Ryan actually and bury JJ.

Ryan is worth 4.5 tbh. That's the going rate for his PPG average

If JJ was a free agent he probably wouldn't get another contract
