SJ - OTT Trade

Created by: Vondy90
Team: 2019-20 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 9, 2019
Published: Oct. 9, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming NTCs/NMCs are waived, OTT takes on the duration of the Jones contract but gets a couple of picks and a good prospect in Chemlevski. SJ takes the remaining 3 years of the Bobby Ryan contract who they hope can provide a little scoring help and goes with the veteran Anderson and signs Neuvirth for the remainder of the season. Sharks could also just promote Korenar if they don't want to sign a UFA.

I dont mind this trade if im Ottawa but Idk if Andy can be the 1st option on a contending team anymore. But I dont know I feel regarding this trade in terms of us having your 2020 1st

It's hugely in Ottawa's best interest for San Jose to have the worst possible goalie this season. If Ottawa thinks Jones will be worse than Anderson this year, they can't take that deal, even if they'd get a 67's legend I'm return.

If you think Jones is better than he's been the last year or so (I do) then you definitely take this.

Who do you think will be worse in net this year, Jones or Anderson? Answer that then take the deal that puts that goalie on the Sharks. That's what's best for Ottawa.

I think Anderson would. Only because hes really old and will have difficulty playing behind that offensively oriented defence. If you put him on the Canes tho, I think hed succeed facing 24-28 shots a game

Thanks for the responses all! As a Sharks fan, this is just about getting Jones off the books and getting a fresh face in the net. Since Anderson is only signed through this season, this gives the Sharks to bring in a new tendy in free agency next summer. I think Jones could potentially turn it around if he got a fresh start somewhere, but I just don't see it happening with the Sharks.

OTT fans, can Bobby Ryan still play top 6 minutes? Or is he really washed up?

Nothing would make me happier than Craig Anderson going to Carolina for one last run at the cup. They have what it takes, and if he could be the man in net when it happens I might cry. Love Andy

I personally don't want to be committed to Jones through 23-24.

If Bobby is healthy then he's definitely good enough to play 2nd/3rd line. His skating isn't very good, and his shot isn't dangerous like it once was (hand injuries), but he's still got skill, and he's still a smart player. He had a lot of success on the 3rd line last year, playing against weaker competition. In the right situation I think he can hit 50 points again.

This all hinges on him staying healthy of course.

Bobby Ryan can provide some needed scoring depth and is only signed through 21-22

He had a rough few years, especially under Guy Boucher. He had something crazy like 7 hand/wrist injuries over a 3 year span. Couple that with him never being able to gain traction under Boucher's rigid 1-3-1 defensive trap system and things were looking real bad. It turned around last year, when the Sens decided to forgo anything even resembling defensive structure and went full throttle offense. He stayed healthy and was pretty good all season.

I’d rather this one. That EK contract is going to be brutal.
