Description

Hopefully the Devils get their defensive play together before its too late. On paper we're built to win over the next two to three years before our "depth" must be resigned...otherwise Ray might have to follow up our amazing offseason with stellar deadline dealmaking. At least next year is a supposedly a deep draft, but without Taylor Hall's magical lottery powers we probably won't end up picking first.

Panthers not giving up a first for Gusev, especially seeing the Devils paid a 2nd and a 3rd.

Well, when the Devils traded for him his potential to be an NHL player was unknown. The Devils took a risk trading for Gusev when he could have easily been a flop. While I don't think his defensive game is where it needs to be, Gusev has shown he can score goals and make plays in the NHL. A late first-round pick for a player who can get 25-30 goals on a team-friendly deal for next year is worth it for the panthers.
