I don’t know, but I have a feeling (assuming he signs for 8 years) he’ll be the highest paid defenseman in the NHL.

My guess with a higher cap hit could be 12-15m

I think Heiskanen will be #2 for sure. Jones, Makar, Byram, Chabot, Werenski - they'll all be close behind as 3a/b/c etc.

I mean its pretty early to make out who the best will be but that pool of jones, werenski, provorov, rielly, mcavoy, makar, dahlin, heiskanen, chabot will be atop the league for the future

I'm not sure on Byram will be that good by 2021-22 that might be his first full season because Colorado doesn't need to rush him in to the line up. I still think he will be an elite defenseman just not that soon. I don't think McAvoy will be better but I do think he belongs with the guys mentioned above.

I think one of the biggest compliments Dahlin received was when Nicklas Lidstrom said "He reminds me of Brian Leetch." who was Lidstrom favorite player growing up.

Dahlin is getting 13 million plus on an 8 year deal and I would do that yesterday

My bad, I forgot about McAvoy! I'd argue Quinn Hughes belongs in the discussion too.

he's starting to become a monster. He's already better than Doughty, Karlsson, Hedman, etc. at the same age.

I was comparing 19 yo Dahlin to those 3 Dmen when they were at the same age as Dahlin.

Dahlin will probably end up scoring a bunch more points and goals, but Heiskanen is a far better defender so I'd take him over Dahlin

I'm not sure if you're agreeing with him or disagreeing with him, but your comments spurred me to look up their stats:

      Draft+1
      Dahlin: 82, 9-35-44 [-13], 21:09 (18 all season)
      Hedman: 74, 4-16-20 [-3], 20:50 (turned 19 in December)
      Doughty: 81, 6-21-27 [-17], 23:49 (turned 19 in December)
Karlsson: played in SHL (18 all season)

      Draft+2
      Dahlin: 4, 1-6-7 [+2], 18:36 (19 all season) ** SO FAR **
      Hedman: 79, 3-23-26 [+3] 21:00 (turned 20 in December)
      Doughty: 82, 16-43-59 [+20], 24:58 (turned 20 in December)
      Karlsson: 60, 5-21-26 [-5], 20:06 (19 all season)

I think it's fair to say that, at least offensively, Dahlin is ahead of these players at the same age. Doughty broke out offensively in his Draft+2 year, it remains to be seen how Dahlin does but he's had a pretty hot start so far. Hedman didn't break out until Draft+5, Karlsson's Draft+3 year was basically equivalent to Dahlin's Draft+1 except EK was -30 on the year.

This kid is the Goods, no question.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Dahlin has been described as being "like Lidstrom but with more offensive ability" - I don't think Heiskanen can be far better defensively than that.

Ya, he’s awesome! Better than doughty was at the same age? Not even close. Doughty was runner up for the Norris his second year in the league, and probably should have won it.

We haven't seen Dahlin at 19 though - except for 4 games in which he's been outstanding. "At the same age" - we can only compare Draft+1 years, and Dahlin's was definitely better than any of the 3 names mentioned above. We can revisit this in June to see if Dahlin is a Norris runner-up or can match Doughty's 59 points, but at this point you can't make the argument that Doughty was better at the same age based on those 2 points.

One of his Swedish coaches. For the record, Lidstrom agreed.

Back in December, fellow Swedish defenceman Nickas Lidstrom said that the 17-year-old reminded him of former Rangers defenceman Brian Leetch. Now, the four-time Stanley Cup champion told Dana Wakiji of DetroitRedWings.com that he thinks Dahlin is ahead of the development curve compared to where he was when he was Dahlin's age.

Bahahahhaa. So one of his coaches gave him a compliment. Then what’s Lidstrom supposed to say? “Nah, I’m way better than that kid.” What a joke.

Nah he wasn’t as good as doughty in his rookie year.
