Plus his contract is actually front loaded so against that cap it is 4 million but real money it's about 2 so melnyk will love that

Paying the RFAs, giving some UFAs that floundered in their contract year hefty 1 year contracts, taking on a bad contract or two from other teams and leveraging assets.

As a Leafs fan (ie not effected by this), I suspect you'll get paid to take erricson from Vancouver. I believe his contract is super front loaded

Pageau is a local so they're probably going to re-sign him.

At 4 mill for 4-5 years so he can be a #4C in a year or 2. That's excellent cap management

backes after july 1 has a 6m cap hit with 3m cash owed. Melnyk special. but really they could just spend a little money on UFAs and hit it, extend brady early maybe same with brown and other young rfas.

What are the chances that Ottawa isn't on his 15-team no-trade list?

I could see Melnyk extending Callaghan and MacArthur and find a way for insurance to cover the cost. Might want to get a jump on Gaborik as well before he goes UFA next season. Proven way to hit the cap floor without spending $15M.

Didn't I just read a comment by a Sens fan asking us to stop trading Jack Johnson and Erik Gudbranson to you guys?

Too bad Loui Eriksson and Patric Hornqvist have NTC's.

It's pretty awesome actually. Excluding expansion teams, this is the 1st team in decades that had a legitimate clean slate to work with

????? Have a roster of 23 would help. There will be plenty teams near the cap who will want to get rid of some veterans with cap. I haven't looked at the UFAs, but are there a few guys who might want to come to Ottawa even on short term contract. There might be a LTIR player who could be traded to the Sens just to add to the Sens cap. Really it shouldn't be a problem hit the floor.

I, as a fan, don't mind taking on those contracts as long as they come with some great sweetners (Ex: 2020 1st and a great forward prospect). Some ACGM's have Pittsburgh giving up peanuts to Ottawa and legitimizing JJ has a "solid D on a bad contract"... it's infuriating.

Extensions don't affect the current year, i.e., they don't supercede the existing contract.

It's hard to say what a guy who isn't wanted in his current city would want. I would want to get the hell out of Dodge.

In Vancouver he's a failure of a signing. Anywhere else he's coming in with low expectations.

Extending Brady tkachuk early won't effect next year's cap

This would be blatant cap circumvention.

Keep Clutterbuck, try to move Ladd. Clutterbuck while overpaid isn't blocking better options for the 4th line. When/ if Ladd comes back he is blocking better options for a Top-9 role.
