Risto might not be a lockdown defender but come playoff time he is what Buffalo wants.
He can be nasty and has no problem mixing it up with the league superstars.
He also has an offensive side to his game.
His current contract $ and term are very tempting to some teams.
all said, i think Risto for Ehlers would be a great trade for buffalo

There's a bit of a difference between a struggling winger and a guaranteed 40 point RHD defensemen.

Ristolanien eats big minutes and the last few years Risto has not had good parings with defenseman except for Pilut and when he was paired with Pilut he wasn’t negative in +\-. If Risto is paired with a good defenseman he would be good for a team as a second pairing and can eat minutes. Teams might have not have to big up BIG for Risto but might have to give a bit more then they’d like and make it work. Buffalo has defenseman now that they dont really need him but they’d keep him if they need to. They just need a top 6 RW so if an offer if they like it can happen. The Sabres will probably take it. Multiple of teams need defenseman since it is becoming an offensive game. People would say they would rather have offensive defenseman but along with that they need a stay at home defenseman that could cover the of guy if he is in the play or decides to pinch. He is also good for a second pp defenseman, can be on the pk which eats minutes. He eats minutes and can be good value to a team. With dreger saying that teams are still interested and saying that something might come together 20 games in if teams are still chucking conversation with Botterill says something. A Risto trade might go down soon but not until Montour is healthy and come back.

At the TDL its already way to late for WPG to make that trade, it would happen in November or December, while they have a chance to turn their season

I’m saying overall for the league, just not the jets. As I said 20 games in something may come together especially with Winnipeg. But I think something will happen when Montour comes back which will be around 20-25 games or it will happen at the TDL

Krueger is fixing his game . Risto has looked like the Risto we all grew to love. Don't worry by the time Botterill is ready to trade him the price will be what Botterill wants. Ehlers may not be enough. Botterill is not rushing into anything and most teams are still figuring it out . There will be more than 1 team bidding for him

There are also many other examples I can think of off a team asking for way more than they ended up getting for a player... Pulju was just the most obvious and extreme, JJ for positive value was what GMJR was looking for/expecting at one time, I'm sure NSH's original asking price for Subban was originally way higher than scraps and a second, and I would hope that we can all agree that Subban>Risto (and I think Subban is quite overrated as well) and that trade I'm sure will also play a factor in negotiations, will a team want to pay way more for Risto than Subban, and yes ik BUF will bring up Subban's contract, but the negotiating team can say NJD has plenty of cap and that wouldn't have played a factor or smth

Have you watched Subban play this year ? Subban is not better than Risto anymore . LOL And Subban's contract and new Jersey's ability to take it all did reduce the price.

Puv being a forward and Risto being an defenseman is a whole different situation bud. Yes subban is way. Ether but his contract does effect the outcome, but Risto contract is manageable. I see where you are getting at being with the subban/Risto comparison, but Risto can be a good second pairing that a playoff team would need at the TDL, getting back at what I was saying that he would be mostly be traded at the TDL I’d anything. It’s slim in a few weeks because how early is it but 20 games in and a team or two are still interested it can happen but likely not. I think any moves will happen at the TDL
