Dubas went Russian-hunting again

Created by: SammyT_51
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 12, 2019
Published: Oct. 12, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
And I love it. So the main target is 24yo RW Alexander Barabanov, who is basically russian copy of Trevor Moore. Get ready for Korshkov-Engvall-Barabanov 4th line next year. One of Hyman/Kapanen might be used on top-4 Dman, more likely Kapanen as he is more valuable and can fetch a better RD for Leafs. Hyman is great but he wouldnt generate much return tbh.

Another potential targets from SKA from what I understand are 21yo G Alexei Melnichuk who is doing amazingly and 24yo defensive RD Artyom Zub (great defensively, stinks offensively, can skate and can pass the puck safely and nicely, would just be likely given PTO if anything since Liljegren would be in the lineup and likely in that spot, but giving him tryout would be good and intelligent).

Targets from other teams:
- 24yo C/RW Konstantin Okulov (CSKA Moscow)
- 23yo C/LW Denis Zernov (Avangard Omsk)
- 24yo G Timur Bilyalov (AK Bars Kazan)

Also my favourite son, Jerry Turkulainen is still in play in Liiga!!!!

I will sign Turkulainen (because of course I am), Barabanov and Melnichuk for this post. Just for you folks to know some stuff that has happened overseas.

Additional Details:
I have another question for Bruins fans. I know Leafs and Bruins likely wouldnt do a trade together, but do you think this is good idea and if not, what will you change? Just asking for opinion, because I feel like this would help both teams.

I'd imagine Sweeney would ask for quite a bit for Carlo. More important he'd probably want someone more established than Kapanen. I remember a few years ago when Boston/Colorado were talking Duchene/Landeskog and Carlo was a non-starter for Sweeney. Removing the TOR/BOS rivalry, I don't really know that Toronto would part with anything Boston would be interested in.

Love the Russian hunting, if done correctly (with any league) could save a ton of money in the bottom 6 and really solidify the depth (looking at you GMJR) and rn I'm really trusting our (PIT's) overseas scouts with the pick of Puustanen, and Riikola signing last summer... Maybe we should do more... The only risk really is using up a contract spot

Carlo is pretty much a good #5 but not an ideal #4. I would rather sign gudas who would be a UFA and just as good at the moment. I dont think dermott will make that much either. Hes definitely worth that but he doesnt put up points and that's how most agents/GM's evaluate players

If you think Carlos is a #5 then you don’t know much.

Fixes a small problem creates a big one. Boston does not have much depth in the system at RD.

They’d do it for Grizz. But he would be of little interest to the Leafs.

But no, as another pointed out they refused to trade him for Landeskog. Kap is no Landy.

Hes not a great skater, not a great puck mover and provides almost nothing offensively. Without krug he has the numbers of a good #5 defenseman and a decent #4. People see how big he is, how hes right handed and his hits so they tend to overvalue him and players like him

Lol, he’s a pretty good skater. It’s one if his better attributes. He is tall, but not big, more lanky, tho he has added some muscle. And while he will hit people it’s not who he is or what his game is. Backes and Kuraly had more hits with far less ice time. He is developing into one of the better young shut down d men in the game. He was arguably the B’s best dman in the playoffs last year. Particularly in the finals.

Unless he is playing for Carolina he is not a #5. He’s a solid 2nd pair type.
