Quoting: OldNYIfan
Well, the genesis of this trade was all the bitter criticism of Gaudreau's performance in the past two playoff series, so I was just toying with this idea . . . right now I've got a 2020-2021 roster without Gaudreau, Brodie and Hamonic and I've signed Hall for $11MM and Mark Pysyk (another Alberta boy) for $4.25MM and I have $4.25MM left for one bottom forward and one bottom-pairing defenseman. I've heard strong rumors that Hamonic will walk, especially if he can work out a deal with Winnipeg, but what's your take on Brodie? And do the Flames want him back? He would be easier to fit in than Gaudreau.
I am guilty of being too hard on Johnny at times, but looking back on the Colorado series with clear eyes, he wasn't that bad, it was his centre Monahan who wasn't very good. I get where your'e coming from though, lots of fans here are scared Gaudreau will head east when his deal is up, why not get ahead of it and move him for Hall and extend Hall right away.
I just ran a next years roster with a slight cap increase of 2 mill, I get that the cap may not go up that much, but I signed Hall at 11x7 and the numbers just barely worked
Some key moves
-Jankowski and Bennett traded, I expect Kylington to be traded to. If at the TDL maybe a Hall for a 1st, Jankowski, Kylington+ package
-Hamonic re-signs and Brodie walks, Hamonic really likes playing in Calgary, he is incredibly active in the community. I think he will take slightly less to stay.
-Andersson signs a 4x3 bridge, Mangiapane signs for 2x2
-Bottom end of the roster is filled out by Dube, Pelletier, Gawdin, Yelesin all cheap young players, Zagidulin fills the backup role.
It's not incredibly likely by any means but it would be so awesome for Flames fans haha
