Make Me an Offer

Created by: MNBassman
Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 13, 2019
Published: Oct. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
20 games from now, if the Wild still suck, GM Bill Guerin will have some tough decisions to make... These are the 4 players I would shop first, if it becomes obvious a rebuild is the only plan that makes sense.
What would you offer from your favorite team to acquire any of these guys?
Side note: I don’t want to hear any, “if you trade Zuccarello, you will never attract another UFA again,” crap...because I don’t care. By the time this team is relevant again, that will be old news!

Rakell (gulp!) and Sherwood or Sprong (all right-handed) for Donato and Spurgeon.

Kapanen, a first and a RhD prospect for Spurgeon. (But that requires another move by Toronto to get under the cap.)

Zuccarello...untradeable. 32 years with the multi years left at 6m. He might be the Loui Ericsson signing of the year.
Spurgeon...a tough trade with his new contract. Big $$ and term might not be as attractive as previous year Money has to be coming back to the Wild. I might have said Nylander before the season, but Willie looks good and might be 7m bargain in the future.
Zucker, he's nice but 5.5m nice?
Donato. He's 23 if he hasn't shown much so far, is he ever?
Sorry Bassman, I just don't see the Wild being able to dump much in cap, so they can reset. Just too many teams at their own cap, to take on those guys.

Donato should be offered to Edmonton for like Dman and pick. Donato-RNH would be great duo.

This is ultimately the main challenge they'll face, unless they're taking back a bad contract to help clear cap space for the other team. So many teams expected the cap to be higher and made decisions accordingly and now not many teams have cap and the ones that do won't be looking to add.

I would trade Donato 100 times before I would consider trading Foligno!

I might even consider retaining on Spurgeon’s salary this year...if I like the RHD prospect. Any chance his initials are T.L.???
Or, how about Spurgeon (1/2 retained rest of this season) and Donato for Kapanen, Lilligren, and your 2020 1st?

Very, very intelligent and insightful analysis...and precisely why the Wild are so screwed!!

With the way they've played, I'd honestly shop Fiala, Greenway, Staal, and Dubnyk as well. This team needs to be blown up.

On a side note, I really want to see Byfield in forest green.

Byfield, Stutzle, and Perfetti are the centers I like most based off the reading I've done about them, but there's some speculation that Stutzle and Perfetti might be better wingers in the NHL. It's not a great draft for centers it seems...

Quick question: does Suter have any game left? And also, if he's traded to a team and retires in 2-3 years... Is it a Roberto Luongo type of scenario where the Wild would have to pay a % of his salary?
BC if you tell me he has game left + I have some insurance that I wouldn't have to be stuck with his contract... I may be interested if I'm Montreal.
I'd say probably a pick + prospect + money coming back?

Suter has a lot of game left! It’s the Wild that would be punished with the penalty if he retires early, not the Habs.

What’s your offer?

Yeah, just watched the 2 games Habs played against Wild... I think Suter becomes #2 in Mtl (after Petry)...

So basically I would offer your choice of 1 of any active D between Chiarot/Reilley/Folin + your choice of 1 of any AHL prospect between Evans/Vejdemo/Ikonen/Ylonen + a draft pick (2nd Rounder if no salary retained/1st Rounder if $ retained).

So that's a jersey filler + a B prospect + a First/2nd pick

If that offer was for Parise or Zuccarello, I would jump all over it...but Suter would cost more than that. Maybe if the 1st had no conditions.
