Sharks are a win now team with an aging roster and they just gave 11.5 mill to Karlsson. They aren’t giving up their 2C who score 35 goals last season for a backup goalie and and prospects

Because it's still October and the Sharks are still likely a playoff team where the Ranger's aren't. They have no reason to trade one of their best players (and retain on him for 3 more years) for question marks.

Right now the Sharks are in "All In" mode...so no way are they parting with their rock solid 2C- even for what looks like a package with a lot of potential. If things were to really go south for the Sharks this year then their TDL deals will be a bit interesting because they will be in a world of $hit- with all those BIG and LONG contracts- so who knows what they might consider. Also, by TDL , the values of all the NYR pieces of this trade will also change- for better or worse...but for now- no way this deal happens
