Minnesota is the only team without anything close to a first center in the mid term. They need a 1C. Backstrom has no desire to finish his career on a team like this. If not washington, the fight to get him on MIN will have to require an overpay, thus ruining this team long term for a few years more of his late-prime.

If the Wild offered him that kind of money he would stupid not to sign Minnesota.
