Seems a bit knee-jerk tbh. I know they've played poorly but pretty much everyone they added over the offseason was young and unproven or a high-risk, high-reward type player. The high expectations that everyone tied to this team never made any sense to me.

I'd give them some time to figure things out. If it takes the whole year, so be it, Hall notwithstanding. They'll get there

It's almost entirely his fault. It's not so much the losses as it is the way the team is losing. Rational fans expected growing pains and an adjustment period, but blowing a 4 goal lead on opening night, untimely goals vs Edmonton, and now a 3 goal lead vs Florida shows that they're a poorly coached team that's unable to motivate his players.

The talent on the offensive side is about as high level as I've ever seen in NJ. But, great talent doesn't necessarily win games. They need cohesion on special teams to start. They need grit and fight in front of their own net. And they need to stop turning the puck over in the neutral zone.

There's absolutely no way this Devils team doesn't improve drastically offensively over the next few weeks, but Butcher, Vatanen, and Severson are way too soft in their own end. Butcher, in particular, is a turnover machine. Their goaltending isn't strong enough to mask their defensive lapses. Shero needs to shop for a shutdown top 4 D ASAP b/c the current roster is not playoff bound.
