The problem with any rebuild of this roster is that you don't have many assets to trade for futures. You've got bad contracts (Parise, Suter, Rask), unmoveable players (Koivu, Zuccarello), guys you don't want to trade (Dubnyk and Dumba), guys you probably don't want to give up on yet (Donato, Eriksson Ek, Fiala, Greenway, Kunin), and guys who have little to no trade value (Foligno, Hartman, Staal, Hunt). That leaves Zucker with his NTC, Spurgeon with his NMC, and Brodin as virtually your only marketable assets. If I could wave a magic wand, I'd persuade Montreal to give you a 2021 second and a right-handed forward prospect for Brodin, and Pittsburgh to give you a 2020 second and Erik Gudbranson for Greg Pateryn (to alleviate their next-year cap problem), but I don't know how much Harry Potter I have in me.
Is there still a possibility that a compliance buyout can be arranged in connection with the Seattle expansion draft? I think that's the only way you're going to get out from under the Parise and Suter contracts.
