I hear ya. We’ll see if Nylander can turn into something special or not. My guess though is with 7 guys already on one way contracts and Boqvist ahead in depth chart Joker would’ve been an AHL player this year. Which would’ve been a good thing.

Yeah, I completely agree. I would have been fine with him developing another year in Rockford. I just see he's already playing in the NHL with BUF and even making Scandella look good. I know Nylander has 2 goals already and needs more time to develop himself. Just seems like that D could have been solved for a LONG time.

Nylander has a higher ceiling than Jokiharju, but also a lower floor. This move was made in an attempt to acquire an impact player, even if he isn't that now, its possible he can be eventually.

That's actually a pretty decent explanation...Now can you explain Panarin for Saad?

Sure, the hawks wanted a strong player in return for bread. They have that in Saad who has had a great start to this year. Didnt want to lose him in FA for nothing

Yeah, holy cow he has. There's a reason he/Kampf/Kubalik took the ice against McDavid/Dari yesterday...and they continue to play a very solid 2-way game. very impressed so far.

Im not a fan of that explanation. Panarin played 2 seasons for Columbus after that trade so it's not like Chicago didn't have time to extend him or find a better offer for a superstar player

Panarin is a very excellent player, and, and his trade from Chicago was a reflection of that. Panarin was going to be out of our price range when his extension expired, and Toews was having a string of bad years by his standards. The real bowman likely figured that 4 years of Saad, and an assumed resurgence of Toews, was worth separating Artemi and Patrick when its been proven that Kane can produce with any player. We had young kids coming up in the system, mainly Schmaltz and Hartman, and I think that lead Bowman to pull the trigger on a trade that theoretically would have been smart in the short and long term. This path didn't work out as well as he predicted, and Panarin bloomed into a star outside of Kane's shadow.

Its impossible to consider this a win for Chicago considering the results, but can it be categorized as a loss when you consider that Columbus no longer has any asset from that trade? We have Saad for 2 years, and he has been dominant to start this season.

Boker, Joker, Beaudin, and Mitchell. With Gilbert and Krys on the bubble and Vlasic ready in 2-3 years. Makes me upset to think about the possibility.

This sentiment is assuming all of those players develop into NHL players, It would be terrible to have a blue line that inexperienced, and having all of those guys would create a log jam on D which would prevent them from establishing themselves as valuable NHL players.

I still think the D will be set for a long time, Mitchell, Boqvist, Krys, Vlasic are 4 really good D men. Nobody is talking about how good Lucas Carlsson was in Rockford last season, he's an under the radar guy. Gilbert looks like he can be a tough #6 as well. The hawks have a lot of options on the back end, and now they have plenty of options up front with Saarela, Quenneville, Entwistle, Hagel, Dach, Nylander and Perlini looking to stick now and in the future.

Maybe it would've made sense to move Joker for a more effective piece that can contribute more immediately, but I guess they want to give Nylander a shot in Colliton's system.

Well I hope Rockford can turn it around because they're stinking it up.

First of all, why do I get the sense that the whole “we really need a top six forward” problem was a huge motivator in this trade? I don’t care about a ceiling, nylander was a ridiculous trade to make and Stan well and truly reached on it. Even two goals this season so far doesn’t justify how lazy his play is.

Also, the argument of having too much of a good thing is an interesting one. All I can say is look at Carolina. Look at the incredible embarrassment of riches they have on defense. Not only that, but they’ve actually been smart enough to trade the older dmen and grow and mature the younger ones. Joker was the victim of a **** GM’s screwed up logic. God I can’t believe Carolina of all teams is making Chicago look stupid.....

I don't really care how well they perform, I just hope the players take steps in the right direction, after all, it is a developmental league.
