I'm not denying that the Jets could use a minute munching RHD but I have reservations about Ristolainen. Guy is a career -143 +/-. Even this season when the team is 5-0-1 and +12 through 6 games, he is still a 0 +/-. In past seasons the excuse has always been that he is a good defender on a bad team. That can't be said anymore. Is it possible that he just isn't very good defensively?

Risto hasnt been a problem on defense this season, +/- is universally known as a garbage stat

5-0-1, scoreboard seems fine. Risto is again leading the Sabres D in TOI with 25 minutes, if he was so bad Sabres would be getting shelled

So a good 2C and a 1st in a stacked draft for Ristolainen?

Makes sense rolling eyes

Copps not a 2C, hes only there because of injuries. I'd also be surprised if that pick was top 10 so youre still getting a project player. Every draft is stacked until 3 years later when 14% of the first round is a NHLer

This right here. Everyone loves to rag on Risto (some of it very much warranted), but the facts are the Sabres are 5-0-1 and Defensively look great and Risto is STILL leading the team in TOI with roughly 25 minutes played a night.

People can't have it both ways. I think more then anything the start to this year shows just how bad of a coach Housley was. People should be focusing in on how horrible Housley was at deploying players, and consistently put them in the wrong situations. Kreuger is showing just how great Risto can be when used properly.

Copp is a good defensive 2C. He only normally plays on the 3rd line because Paul Maurice is an idiot and doesn't know how to optimize his lineup.

You do know that Ristolainen still hasn't been that great right? He's still been below average

Even Winnipeg fans see him as a good 3c

I mean: 47.96 CF%, -5.86 Rel CF%, 49.1 xGF%, -6.06 Rel xGF%, -12.5 Rel GF%, 3.11 xGA

So yeah, he hasn't exactly been as good as you think

OK and? That doesn't mean anything. Just because Winnipeg fans say so, doesn't mean he is.

I feel like WPG would know their players the best (and be huge homers who over value their players)

I never said he's been great or even good. I'm not a Risto fan boy or anything; in fact I'm fairly quick to criticize him. I did infer he's play has been much better and that point still stands. If you want to reference the analytics that point still stands. He's been better. Hopefully it continues.

I said that he hasn't been that good, you said that was wrong, you were indirectly saying he's been somewhat good. The stats show he hasn't.

His TOI has remained the same and his advanced stats have improved. He hasn't been the anchor he's been in the past. If you watch the game you can also blatantly see he's playing better*. That's all I really care about. He's definitely not as good as some care to think but he's not as bad as people seem to think either.

*he did play horribly last night against the ducks
