Dilemma in Ottawa next year

Description

Coaches will never play a team full of youngsters and our best players are youngsters, almost all our vets are expiring. We have 5-6 youngsters likely ready to be on the team next year plus our 2020 1st. If we choose to surround our young players with veterans it will likely ruin their development especially if they are versions of Ennis, Boedker etc. Do we go after top level guys like Kreider to surround our young players with or will the coach adjust to play a lot of youngsters on the team or will they re-sign guys like Pageau, Brown, Duclair who will find themselves paid too much money and on the 4th line in a year or 2.

That's a lot of cap space. If Eugene wasn't such a cheapskate, the team could do a lot of damage in Free Agency and/or taking on bad contracts for more assets.

Yup a lot of damage, would accelerate the rebuild for sure by at least a year

"If we choose to surround our young players with veterans it will likely ruin their development". That ain't true. You can and probably need some veterans. A. team can't have a bunch of not really for the NHL players on a a team. Not saying to overpay for some elite UFAs, but certainly there will be moderate to good vets available especially from some cap strapped teams.
Best thing the Sen can do is do draft properly with all the picks and develop their youngsters.
