You're trading a lot for a guy that ends up as a third pair Right D. In your scenario in addition to moving out Poolman (who is a third pair RD) Vesa and a 2nd we also likely lose Logan Stanley to waivers.

It's a small sample size but Heinola Pionk look like they could be the 2nd pair already. JMo is top pair on the left and I expect Samberg to step in and play too like you've shown.

There's really no need to make this move at all, especially when it costs us a bottom pair roster player, 2 former 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick.

Alternate scenario with no trade and no Buff:

Next year (with age next season):

    JMo (25) Niku (24)
    Heinola (19) Pionk (25)
    Samberg (21) Poolman (27)
    Stanley (22)

So the D is pretty much set, so is the top 9 and the goaltending. If you add Buff back in there it looks even better.

This year may be a down year, but I still think we're a playoff team and we'll be right back to being serious contenders again next year. At least that's how I see it playing out.

There's no need for the Jets to trade for anybody, even though other fanbases think we should. Just be patient through 1 up and down year where we likely make the playoffs and if we don't it's a great draft so we should be able to grab a 2C of the future.

I understand where you're coming from. However, I would think the Jets should make an addition on the back after this year. We're banking on our prospects panning out to their full potential. By adding 1 reliable veteran I think it gives some room for error. I like Poolman but if we could flip him in a package for something better, I would not be opposed to it.

If you swap Niku and Pionk in the defence lineup I showed above it gives you 1 above average veteran D-man in each pairing. This allows room for growth for each young player. Either a trade for a player like Ghost or signing Tanev in the offseason would facilitate this.

I think this makes the team better long term
