Additional Details:
Yotes make room for Lyubushkin in this move. Petan in return offers bottom 6 depth at least. Conditional pick depends on Petan's ability to actually play games.... suspect he gets passed on the charts my Engvall in Toronto.

For the Leafs, a low cost RD on an expiring deal allowong them to contunue to align payroll. Veteren presence who can play top 4 minutes.

so you trade Demers for a guy that is basically a waiver claim, and yes a possible pick, and trade out Stepan with retention to free up space for his replacement.. JG Pageau... who with the retention on Stepan, has a higher cap hit and is definitely a downgrade

AZ does neither of these moves. You dont trade a 4-5 RHD with retention for a 14th forward...
Also no reason to trade Stepan (especially with retention) and sign a worse player on a shaky contract

Phil Kessel has as many points as Alex galchenyuk in almost twice as many games.

Demers is about the pick. And out of Goligoski (who is tougher to move) and Hjalmersson (hello 2-3 year extension), Demers is the guy you move.

Pageau is a highly underated player. So yeah, for a year you take a hit - but I see Stepan as a depreciatijg asset. Gotta think longer term than just one year on this, as I really don't see a great 3C replacement on the roster or in the system. Maybe I am wrong.?‍♂️. But a 26-27 year old Pageau is a more solid pick up than u think.

Ummmm..... conditional pick? Believe I listed that.

I maintain Stepan is a depreciating asset. Pageau is younger, substantially faster and likely a 40 point guy outside Ottawa.

Demers is quite serviceable....... so I was thinking a 2nd unless Petan blows my mind.... factor in a possible resign too, I think a 2nd is fair return.
