NJ would never take this trade mostly because someone will offer more for him. With Detroit having 11 players under contract for next season and between $36,032,918 and $39,032,918 in cap space they can't afford to sign him at $10M - $12M. Renting him does seem very Logical for team still rebuilding. He wasn't happy because he felt that NJ wasn't doing enough to turn the team in to a contender right? If that is they case NJ took some big steps toward in becoming a contender and is much closer than Detroit is.

The pick can still be a top 10 pick. Why do so many think Hall is going to make a difference maker on a poor team? He's played five playoff games in his nine year career.

Because of the last season (2017-18) he played without injury he won a Hart Trophy.
