Whoa!

Now I don't mind Jimmy Howard. But that package is insane!.......

1. Ceci has been surprisingly solid, and it's premature to move him given the current state.of the blueline.

2. Moving cheap contract control in Bracco for an expiring deal for a guy who is more on thenwrong side of 30..... just no.

3. The draft pick is overkill after the Bracco overkill.

We can agree the Leafs need a realiable backup that can play 30 games...... other options off the top of my head...... Griess, Anderson (say what you will there), Allen even. All for less than the tag on Howard.

Ceci has been the most played player on THE ENTIRE LEAFS getting the hardest match ups of ANYONE. He needs to go both because he sucks (although not as much as expected) and because of Babs.
Also Howard sucks. First image is this year so far (small sample). Second is last year near the end of the season.

I think this needs Biega or forward prospect from Detroit to make it work. But I love the idea.

even if a team is tanking, they have to have some level of competitiveness for the fan base.
You can't throw the towel in 6 games in and say, we tank. Not even the NHL would be ok with that.

Griess isnt available because the islanders are contenders and dont need a crappy dman back. Anderson could be an option, allen blows but blues dont need ceci.

The leafs did that when they threw sparks to the wolves. The wings have half a dozen player in the AHL aho could make the team but they are keeping them down to extend their ELC's and prevent them from improving their team. Bettman is representing the owners and if the owner wants to sell then they will sell

I think its a lot easier for the leafs to get away with that than Detroit.
The leafs have a good financial situation. Detroit, they are already struggling to sell tickets in a brand new arena.
There is more at play here than this simple argument you are making.

ticket sales are such a small part of a teams revenue compared to everything else, not having a great team isnt great for sponsors and all that stuff but long term its far better long term for them to completely rebuild and its pretty likely that they will trade howard anyways so they should get the best package possible.
