There all good options but can't tell you which one is the best option when your valuating them like you are....... Florida isn't trading Matheson for AHL players....come on man.

Maybe not for AHL players, but I think this might be MTL's best option. (Of course, besides the one I've been.....Hawking.....for a year now. Pun intended) It's certainly very interesting at the least with 7 years left @ $4.75M. I was actually just conversing with a FLA fan on his post. Coach Q will NOT tolerate young dmen giving up the puck. Matheson hasn't taken care of the puck very well histrocally and (while I admit I haven't watched much of him this year) doesn't appear to be doing so this year. I fully expect him to be sent to Q's dog house.

Another option that I'm probably the only one preaching for is Christian Djoos in Washinton (currently in Hershey in AHL). I like this guy a lot and I still think the Habs should have pick him on waivers at the beginning of the season. Right now, he has 5 pts in 5 games in the AHL. A young, good puck-moving D, with playoff experience and a stanley cup ring. I think he is underrated. He is better than Reilly. WOuld be cheaper than what you are suggesting here too.

Matheson's contract could turn out to be ugly after a bad season last year and a bad start this year. But I can't see Florida doing this trade this early

On how you evaluate the players, I'd do the trade for Fowler because I'm starting to give up on Lehko offensive potential. Suzuki + Lehko seems a win for MTL because they get a great LD on a good and long contract. MIN trade might be my 2nd choice

I agree with you but they are thinking of taking him out of the line up! and I had no more player in my roster but Juulsen was a great option IMO tears of joy
OK Armia, Lindgren 3rd for Mathy

I agree with Djoos but I was looking for a guy that can take TOP 4D for sure... not another Reilly Kulak or Brook chance that MAYBE they can filled it.
Otherwise I would have taken a guy like Scandella who would cost Byron one on one only... but he would be a bottom LHD at the end! so no risky option... great fair value only

I think Friedman put in his 31 thoughts today that Sabres could be shopping Scandella.
That would be an interesting guy to play next to Weber, stable and big

They have been shoping him last year as well and now playing bottom pairLHD... last game they gived him more icetime... eindow shopping to bring more value with more icetime!
It would cost less than all other above but maybe won't be a big upgrade like those option IMMO

Brodin (and maybe plus) for Armia, Fleury and whichever 2020 second is the higher (numerically -- i.e., less valuable) pick.

Or... Or... We keep things like this, finish the season barely in or barely out of the playoffs, and we draft Jérémie Poirier from LHJMQ (likely between the 10th and 20th pick). Love that LHD. With him, Romanov, Struble, Norlinder and Mete... We will have a great LHD depth in a few years.

I mean if montreal misses the playoffs (likely but you never know in hockey) they do have a chance at picking in the top 3 and winning the lottery. i dont think trading for a legit ld now helps them long term. would be better to address in offseason

Price & Weber state that they want to win now... and Berg can't missed the playoff 3 years in a row after having 96pts last season and not progressing or helping is team to do better... this is a NO WAY

i just dont think the team is good enough unless price stands on his head for most of the year. even if they bring in a stud ld man. you arent better than most of the teams in the atlantic.

The only guys I see being available this calendar year are Jonas Brodin, Alec Martinez and Nick Leddy (who probably has only 2 more years of high-quality play left in him). The situation may be different as 2020 arrives and the trade deadline approaches, depending upon who is still competing for playoff spots and who isn't. Otherwise, you're restricted to almost-ready-for-prime-time players like Jacob Larsson in Anaheim.

not sure if you are aware, julien hates coaching young players. he wants vets only. watched him ruin plenty of young guys careers first hand - bruins fan.

Martinez: 2021 second and Josh Brook
Leddy: 2021 second, 2020 fourth and Artturi Lehkonen

I would put these as "max-to-the-other-team" values. Some Montreal fans will argue that these are "overpayments" but they would probably be the difference between making the playoffs and not. Martinez in particular, as one of the premier shot-blocking defensemen in the NHL as well as his ability to play both sides, is more valuable than most East Coast viewers think.

After looking yesterday game against MTL... not sure of Brodiin value anymore... He seems slow against the habs.
