This is true but the leafs are thin enough on rhd. Ceci has been contributing offensively and hasn’t been horrible defensively.

Wasn't the situation that he can't be traded this year because he signed through arbitration? I thought I remembered reading that somewhere.

He hasn't been bad per say, but once Hyman and Dermott come back from LTIR which is most likely sooner than later; the cap crunch is going to become quite difficult to manage. They can either house a 21 man roster with one scratch or they can rid themselves of the 4.5 million dollars belonging to Ceci and allow themselves cap relief of almost 5 million dollars for the rest of the season. Would help them not only play with a full 23 man roster but make moves later on in the year.

If they decide to keep Ceci then Dubas will have to send players down to the minors like Timashov, Gravel, Shore/Spezza and Petan where any of them are likely to be claimed. The more realistic approach in my opinion would be to trade Ceci and his one year contract to a team for maybe a player or picks and free up the space where they won't lose anyone on waivers.

Gravel and Petan have already been sent down once and didn't get claimed. And even if they did, is that really a problem?

If the leafs are going to use any of that cap space they will need to make a trade without a 1st this year. That means that another roster of layer will most likely need to be moved so it’s kind of a catch 22. Ceci has had a decent start to the season. If he were moved for a cheaper rhd that can cover the bottom pair when Dermott comes back I think that may be the best case scenario. It’s Either that or be packaged with a winger and a pick for an upgrade on the blue line.

I have yet to see a post where Ceci is moved and a competent RHD takes his place. You just wrote that Ceci is worth a player or picks, in that case the Leafs better keep him. What's with this fear mongering about the Leafs losing all those players on waivers? You really think all of them on going to find room on other teams 23 man rosters?

If you see above....

Moving Ceci allows them to run a 23 man roster.
