Initial Creation Date: Oct. 17, 2019
Published: Oct. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
...And if anyone it's gonna be Doug Wilson who goes after the biggest fish.

This probably isn't gonna happen but it's a fun hypothetical
Trades
NJD
  1. Dillon, Brenden
  2. Karlsson, Melker
  3. Merkley, Ryan
  4. 2020 2nd round pick (SJS)
  5. 2021 1st round pick (SJS)
  6. 2022 2nd round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
(Picks are the same as the Karlsson deal, NJD gets the 2022 2nd if Hall re-signs, and gets the 2022 1st if he re-signs and they win the cup in that time)

(Dillon and Karlsson are only there to make the cap work - both are only on 1 year deals)

Seems like a waste for a rental, and to be in the same position next year with less assets. I think they'd be smarter to go after someone with a few years term on a decent cap hit. I don't think Hall plays San Jose's style as well

Terrible deal for a rental. Merkely is a future star and we should only be trading him for a young winger on a long contract

I'd agree but we're not dealing with Dorion this time around. The Devils will probably want more than we gave up for Karlsson, especially with the fact that we could probably convince Hall to stay like we did with EK.

Don't know where you coming up with all the cap to resign Hall. He gets a raise and do some RFAs. Very little expiring big money.

Mix of expiring contracts, increase in cap, and the rumored Vlasic to MTL deal would probably be needed to make it work. Then again this is a hypothetical and honestly it is unrealistic to pull of blockbuster trades in back-to-back years.

We would have the cap if needed. There are ways to retain him, just ask toronto how they pull it off

I think the Mark Stone trade should be the "benchmark" of a sign-and-trade for Taylor Hall
- A top prospect (Sens got Erik Brannstrom)
- 1st round pick (Sens would've gotten 1st round pick if Dorion was smart enough)
- Roster player (considering Hall is better than Stone)
- Something else to clear the Sharks cap

Rumours are rumours. There were rumours that Kovalchuk would go to NY. Panarin joining Bobrovsky in Florida. Karlsson trying to pull off a "Chris Pronger" move.

Besides, I don't think Vlasic would waive his NMC to be traded to Montreal. He already made fun of his hometown media for writing an article about him buying a house in Quebec. On the other hand, Montreal already has Weber and Price on close to bad contract.

I agree I wouldn't give up Merkely but he won't net a big return until he plays a few games in the NHL.
