Boston is a contending team. They aren't going to trade their 2C for futures.

we won't need Krejci since we are playing like we have a guaranteed lottery pick (or bottom 10). Between Byfield, Lundell, Perfetti, Stutzle, Lapierre, one of them will be available at 10th overall since Lafreniere, Holtz, Raymond etc are projected top 5 picks.

Why spend a 1st for Krejci when we aren't contending for another 2 years (at which point he'll be 35/36) -- this is the old rangers way of thinking and it does not benefit anyone

edit: also, DeAngelo doesn't get that deal. He gets traded within the next two years. Trouba, Fox and Lundkvist will man the right side of the defense (purely cap reasons, Lundkvist will be 2-3m cheaper than DeAngelo and provide the same if not better performance)

They need to get younger and could use the cap flexibility with Krug's contract expiring. Marchand, Bergeron, and Rask have played some hard minutes and more games than just about anyone else in the league over the last ten seasons. Not much of a prospect pool either. I really don't see this group contending in the Atlantic division after this season without making some changes.

You may be right, but all the more reason to go all in on a cup this season. Imagine what it would do to the players, fan base, and team as whole if management decided to throw in the towel right after they were in the cup final especially when that team is still good and intact.

He is an excellent anchor for what will most likely be a very young line, great veteran presence, still can put up decent numbers, and relieves a great deal of pressure that would otherwise be placed on Andersson, Kaakko, and Kravtsov. The worst thing the Rangers could do is to give those players difficult minutes that they aren't ready for and can't handle. That's what Edmonton and Buffalo and Arizona have done for the last ten years and that's why those teams still suck despite having top-five picks every single year. Also, I could definitely see the Rangers contending next year with this team and a pretty average division, but they need a solid 2C and a couple reliable depth pieces.

edit: And krejci's contract only runs another year, so adding him doesn't create any potential long-term issues

I get what you are saying here, but by the time we are ready to actually compete he will be a UFA. And it's not exactly like edmonton where we have no veterans.. we still have Zibanejad, Panarin, etc. Save that 7.25m if you really want a 2c and go after RNH when he hits UFA in 2021 instead
