I think that signing him for term and "low" will help with space later to sign Hughes who could command a lot of he plays good + the CBA increases the Cap

He’s what a 50 point scorer as a rookie? He will definitely improve as this contract ages, and if you end up getting a 65 point player at 7.2 in a couple years I don’t think you’ve done terrible.

im not a hischer fan but 7.2 is a lot of money and he hasn't exactly proven anything like most points is 50 is that rlly worth 7.2

It’s not as simple as does 7.2=50 points. This contract is a medium risk- high reward situation for the Devils. He could either stay at around 50 points and be slightly overpaid (with a rising cap), or develop into a much better player and have that contract be a steal in 2-3 years.

I'd rather have Keller than Hischier on similar deals tbh. This is a big gamble on Hischer. Could look genius or horribly backfire

I agree with this. I just think the timing is a bit odd. 47-52 points and pretty bad start to the year makes it seem like Shero was desperate for some reason. I get this at the end of the year once he's done a little better, but October 18th? What if he doesn't do better? He's still REALLY young like you say and a talented player, so we'll see.

I think it's pretty good. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he is a consistent 75ish point scorer making 7.2 is great

Are we just complaining about any and all contracts now? Not sure how this contract “sucks”

It's too much. Players should get rewarded for what they've done so far, not their potential. The future is unknown.

The new CBA needs to address this issue (RFA's and young players getting too much power) before it gets out of hand, it might already have gotten out of hand.

Sure next year and maybe the year after that.... but beyond then it should be a solid deal and a steal towards the end.

Flyers will trade you Patrick on his ELC for him if you really don't like it?

If you pay guys based on what they earned you get contracts like Vlasic’s. He earned that contract but he’s being paid for past production. Nico is being paid for future production. We’ll judge it over time.

Exactly! I've been trying to make this point forever. Theres always gonna be an inherent risk when coming off an ELC. Nico is also very solid defensively, which doesn't show up like points in the box score. This contract is better value than Nylander and Keller given Nico's defensive game and his age. How many times do these deals actually backfire?

Shero is smart. He knows that defense matters. How many 20 year old Centers play top line matchups every night at that age? While I wouldn't call this a steal, I think it's a very solid and fair deal based on projected numbers and talent.

Ask Bergevin if he'd like to re-do the Domi contract. Long term at say $5M AAV. Now it's gonna cost $7M+ AAV to re-sign him. When you get in on the ground floor, you can save big cap space down the road. If Nico develops into a true #1 Center in 3 years, his next contract would cost well over $10M AAV, especially if the cap continues to rise. This was a calculated risk on Shero's part, but a risk that seems to make a lot of sense moving forward.
