Team: 2019-20 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 19, 2019
Published: Oct. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Let's say all parts are for sale except draft pics, Kaprizov, and (unless way over paying for him) Dumba. Write down your best offer. When presenting your offer please realize this is a rebuild around a young Russian superstar, so he will want other Russians around. Also not looking for large contractors with term, large and expiring would be worth considering.

I'd throw Boldy into the "untouchable" category and Kunin into the "available but has to be an overpayment" category.

If you're looking for Russians, I'd bet that Sergachev could be had but he will be somewhat pricey in a trade.

The Wild should make a run at Kuznetsov somehow

why? kuznetsov is 27, if MIN wants to rebuild then kuz will be in his 30's by the time the team will want to compete. not a good fit imo

They get a no 1 center that they’ve pretty much never had and it could really entice Kaprizov to come over and honestly they could develop a nice chemistry

why do they need an older 1C if they are rebuilding? thats the exact opposite of that they should do. they need to sell for young assets, prospects, and picks.

If they persuade themselves they can do a quick turn around in 1-2 years it might be worth it, especially if they are in the running to bring in Lafreniere or Byfield and lure over Kaprisov for next season. I know it may be foolish but it could work out ...

More to the point, what realistic package could the Wild possibly put together to land Kuznetsov that wouldn't consume the other assets they have for the rebuild?

I would think Koivu with $$ retained would be a prime rental for any team at the deadline. Eric Staal is off to a slow start but he has a moveable contract (maybe the Canes try to get him back?), as does Fiala (maybe the Oilers if they keep playing well?).

I said this somewhere yesterday, but I’d totally take Fiala on the Blues. What about like Fabbri+2nd+someone like Bortuzzo who you could flip around the deadline?

I think that Dumba, Koivu, Parise, Spurgeon, Staal, Suter and Zuccarello are all functionally unmoveable for one reason or another. Other guys like Donato, Rask and Pateryn will bring back only mid-round draft picks. That makes the significant assets available to upgrade your rebuild Zucker, Brodin and Dubnyk.

In other posts I've suggested that Zucker should bring a first-round draft pick plus an A prospect or two A prospects and a second, and Donato a second and a decent (A/B) prospect. Brodin to Montreal seems a natural, but you know the Canadiens aren't trading their 2020 first, seconds or third (or Brendan Gallagher, for that matter).

Spurgeon to Anaheim would seem to be a natural, but at this stage I can't see the Ducks trading Rickard Rakell, Ondrej Kase or Troy Terry, and who else would you want (or deserve)? Zucker and Spurgeon for Rakell is just barely imaginable, but Rakell and Silfverberg seem to have established a chemistry second to none on the team.
