Salary Cap Mode: Basic

Description

Basic though process:
-Leafs have to send down 4 of petan, gravel, timoshov, shore, spezza, marincin and holl.
-Petan and gravel have already been waived, so they -are obviously going to be sent down.
-Timoshov and shore have been 2 3rds of a good 4th line so far this season so they wont be sent down
-That leaves spezza, marincin and holl
-With hyman and Dermott coming back, they will only need to keep 1 dman
-This means that spezza, and probably marincin go
-Obviously marincin would clear waivers, but spezza I'm sure we can all agree needs a better spot somewhere.

From an organizational perspective I don't think they can trade him.
It just looks bad if they do.
They went out of their way to ask him to play here.
They trade him out and it damages future choices.
It's like signing an undrafted NCAA player and then trading him. You don't do it. No one else will ever sign with you again.
It's a 1 year league min contract. You simply have to deal with it.

But nobody else wants a washed up 36 year not even 10 games into the season either. ??‍♂️ Sorry. Just is. Better hope he picks his game up and maybe you can get something for him at the deadline. You brought him in for depth and veteran presence not production.

they aren't sending him down.
You just don't get it. You made a deal with a guy. You make him promises. You keep your word.
If you don't, everyone else knows it. It comes back around on you.
They asked him here. He didn't have to come here.
They are now stuck on that deal. The only way he gets moved is if it's where he wants to go. Not anywhere they can dump him.

i know for a fact that spezza wants to win a cup with the leafs

Much better to have 7D. If you get a last minute forward injury you can run 11F-7D or even play the extra defence man as a winger on the 4th line. Much better situation than having to either play 5D or put a F back there.

With a short handed roster, Spezza is a handy guy since he can play centre or wing....as long as plays effectively. Gotta think if the Leafs make a trade it will be with one of the more expensive wingers getting traded to create cap space for help on defence.
