Do you think that’s fair for Brodin...?

I think minny would have less interest in Jugs. They’d want a younger player / prospect. Unless they intent to flip him

That’s true...I still think they need to find a legit player to play left side on the 2nd pairing even if they have to burn their first to do so. Forcing Pettersson into a third pairing role with Marino would be so ideal.

They won't do that trade for several reasons.
1st is they are pretty committed to Dumo, Pettersson, POJ on the LD. You might as well pencil that in for next year.
2nd it's highly doubtful they would trade a prospect who has only had 6 games played under his belt. They would give him at least 1 year to see what they have. Especially a kid coming out the NCAA.
How do you look at any player coming in from the NCAA and tell them, sign with us after 3-4 years, if they are simply going to trade him out after 6 games.
There is no way they would ever do that. Hell they probably don't trade him after 2 years. You are kind of committed to those guys. Because if you punk them, the next NCAA player, says, you know what, I'll play my senior year and then just wait to be a FA. And that don't work for the team.

You’re right about Bjorkvist but the way I see it is that Brodin would play the left side this year and then play right side next year when Schultz inevitably departs in free agency. Brodin played the right side pretty much all of last season when Dumba was out and he’d give the Penguins a legit option on the right side for next season plus it would allow Addison to work in the AHL next season so he can come in right away once Brodin’s contract expires.

He's the wrong hand to play RHD all season.
I don't know, it's hard to explain if you haven't played defense. It's really hard to move the puck off a back hand across the rink. Most guys playing on their off side aren't really playing that side. They are more playing center field and then it's just wonky. It doesn't work well and truth is, even though people say they can play their off side. Most people are significantly worse on their off side. It's one thing if you are a winger and they are all over the ice anyway. But defense kind of have their spots on the ice. They don't really wonder too far from them. On the blue line, front of goal.
It also has the double issue of the goalie not really use to the defense man stick position. It makes a huge difference if you are trying to help your goalie out taking away a cross seam pass or lifting a stick.
When you can't pass cross ice well it limits how much ice you can work with then moving the puck up ice without the added risk of a turn over, especially one that leads to a high danger shot.
In general, if you can play a player on his natural side, you should.

Brodin played most on the LD side last year. Pateryn moved up to take Dumba's spot as the RD for the defensive draws and Hunt played LD for the o-zone draws. Brodin only played offhanded with Bitetto in the lineup. Brodin is fine playing RD, he did it for his first few years in MN with Suter and Scandella as his LD partner, but he's been mainly a LD the last 3 years.

I don't see MN having much interest in Bjugstad. He's made of glass, and his contract doesn't fit well with the whatever they have going on right now. I guess they could just cycle Bjugstad and Rask into the lineup between injuries? sarcasm

Value seems ballpark, but if we're moving Brodin that means rebuild and we'd want picks/prospects over roster players. We have too many roster forwards as it is anyways.
