As a Caps fan I'd do this so freakn fast but can't see either team doing it. NJD might do it if it was guaranteed Holtby would re-sign, but can't see Caps doing it.

Caps do this in a heartbeat. There's no way NJD do this deal.

That's true, but they also probably won't be able to keep Holtby with Hischier's deal kicking in next season.

I'm wondering if New Jersey would even be interested in signing Holtby. Lots of UFA goalies are available. Is Holtby really THAT good now?

Theyd have about 25 million and some of their holes would be filled by elc guys

Could work, as long as Holtby agrees to an extension.

NJ would do this if they planned to extend Holtby AND had a plan to either move Schneider or plan to buy him out. They would not be making this trade for this year and since Holtby is a UFA, an extension is the only way this goes down. The Caps do not need a Hall extension as a stipulation as they are actually a contender and that is the reason for getting Hall.

Or... they expect that they could get more for Holtby in doing another trade (flip) than they are offered for Hall.

I think NJ waits to see which Holtby they get before extending him. Dont want another expensive underwhelming goalie.

Quite honestly, Schneider was never all that impressive.
