So Puljujarvi is worth... a 26-year-old journeyman? Somehow I don't see Holland going for this offer.

Puljujarvi wants top-six minutes in the NHL. When hired as the new GM in Edmonton, Holland said he thought Puljujarvi would start the season on the third line, and the coaching staff would give him every opportunity to develop and earn a top-six role as the season progressed. That wasn't good enough for Jesse and his agent. If Buffalo is ready to guarantee Puljujarvi no less than the second line right wing immediately, he is likely to sign and report to the Sabres.

Botterill and Holland have teams that are tied with Colorado atop the NHL standings. It seems to me that both probably understand their rosters have some flaws, but neither is likely to feel pressured to make a trade at this point. Botterill may like what you've proposed, but Holland is an experienced GM and I doubt he would agree than Rodrigues is fair value for Puljujarvi. He'll want a player with the same kind of potential JP offers, Rodrigues doesn't come close to that.

Problem with Jesse is he feels entitled . You get what you earn . From what I have seen he has not earned a top six spot . Draft position earns you nothing . I think Holland handled it will. Does not look like the Oilers miss him. To be honest Botts and Ralph would handle him the same way .

At 26 hardly journeyman . At this point you are not going to get a great return for old JP . Maybe a second round pick that you will not see for at least 3 years . At least Erod can be a good utility player for you . JP drove his own value down not proving himself to new GM and taking his stick and going home.

Some misinformation about Jesse here: he never demanded a top-6 position, he simply said in an interview that he thought he could play top-6 in the NHL. Unfortunately the interview was in Finnish, lazy English-only reporters ran his quote through google translate and came up with (surprise surprise) an erroneous translation.

It was good for clickbait, though...

Kinda. His attitude is not doing Edmonton any favors. He may be talented but your risking implosion if hes not given top 6 minutes. Cant see anyone offering a whole lot for that. Sabres should add a little but just writing off Rodrigues as a journeyman is kinda ignorant too

Uh, I literally JUST addressed that in the post above yours. His "attitude" is a non-issue.

It's about on par with the AHL. Any 21-year-old getting p/gp in the AHL is lauded as a top prospect, but not Jesse.

Oh yeah thats why he came back to Edmonton and enjoyed a great first month. Its always essy to redact negative comments, but if he really didnt have a problem, he would be in Edmonton (or Bakersfield) rn figuring it out

You are confused. The false report of him demanding a top-6 position has nothing to do with the fact he doesn't want to play for the Oilers anymore. Nothing. If you look at his time with the Oilers, he played mostly in the top-6. Those are two separate subjects that you are confusing.

And he can't be in Bakersfield without clearing waivers first, which wouldn't happen.

It's not a beer league. The Liiga ranks below the KHL and SEL, it may be comparable to the AHL. Puljujarvi's relative success in Finland doesn't surprise me. He didn't get a lot of AHL time, and his stats in Bakersfield don't reflect the manner in which he dominated play while playing for the Condors. The guy has great NHL size, speed, and skill. He just hasn't put his game together on a consistent basis. I maintain that Holland likey sees his potential being far greater than that of Evan Rodrigues. If he didn't, it's probable Puljujarvi would have already been traded.

Sabres fan in me says, “Sure. Why not?”

But there’s no way EDM would trade him for E Rod

Fair enough. I think neither of us can be certain with respect to the interview, or perhaps the intent of the player and his agent. We are both entitled to believe what we feel is most probable, I see a young player who has walked away from a contract offer and certainty that he would be given an opportunity to develop in the NHL under a new coaching staff and management regime. From my perspective, it looks like JP and his agent are either unreasonably stubborn, or incredibly foolish. If he simply does not want to be in Edmonton any more he would probably have been better off trying to help the GM make a trade, by signing a one-year contract and showing up at camp highly motivated to catch the attention of every other NHL GM out there and improve his ability to communicate in English.

Ever been to a game in Finland? His Karpat coaches speak English to the players on the bench. I don't think language is as big an issue as people make it out to be.

another point...

The oilers are off to a good start
They don’t have any pressure to trade him right NOW,
so why “sell low” on him?

It just wouldn’t make sense

Let’s say we still had Nylander
Would u want us to trade him for an “E Rod type” player?
I wouldn’t

Makes more sense to let him develop more,
even if it’s in Finland
Than it does to trade him for a player like E Rod
They could just trade something like a 3rd round pick if they really wanted a player like that
