Who could use ceci

Created by: In_it_to_winnik
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 22, 2019
Published: Oct. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously the ceci project has not work for TO. I would say he belongs on a 3rd pair somewhere. He makes too much(4.5m) but it's only for 1 year. Which team has cap space and could use a 3rd pair RHD? Obviously the return would be nothing more than a depth dman (that makes under 1.5m) or a potential backup goalie.

I just threw in a possible scenario which I could be totally off, but I feel like makes some sense
Trades
TOR
  1. Domingue, Louis
  2. Rutta, Jan
Additional Details:
The leafs save money so they can actually keep extras on their team. They acquire an actual okay backup, and a depth dman.
TBL
  1. Ceci, Cody
  2. Petan, Nicolas
  3. 2020 4th round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
There were many reports at around the deadline last year that tampa was seriously looking at acquiring ceci. This trade gets them a good 3rd pair guy (like Girardi was) while dumping domingue and Rutta.

Jets maybe? There entire RHD was decimated this off season. If Byfuglien retires, they would certainly have the cap space. I gotta believe they could do better than Ceci though. Unless the Leafs retained salary, which kind of defeats the purpose no?

agree, i cant help thinking that buff is coming back until they utilize the cap space being saved for him.

It's all about saving money in the trade so they could retain, but it has to be at a point where they are saving money. Let's say Winnipeg has a dman making 800k and could potential play in a depth role, then I'm sure toronto would retain 1-1.5m because they could still have extra money to afford a better backup.

Ceci only has this year under contract... plus in this trade they are taking back 2.5m of basically dead space from TB. If the money didnt work, they could also retain some money to make it work. What do you think of the actual basis of the trade without looking at the salary?

They only take 1,375 millions given the fact that domingue only count for $75,000. Now, i don't really see why TBL would do this move. How is Ceci helping them if he's not able to help TML's defense ?

Tampa has a much better defense then toronto. In toronto ceci plays top minutes against top competition. On tampa if he were to play say 17-18mins on TB 3rd pair with pk time he would be much more valuable and would be able to succeed.

it's sad when playing less is more valuable at almost 5 millions. but what about cap space chief?
