I get where you are trying to go, but it won't get you there, to be honest
Carter is waaay past his prime. He might be slightly better than Chiasson today and Martinez is a little bit better than Benning, but both are much older at more than twice the cost on multi-year contracts. I would've considered a deal of this magnitude for Carter & Martinez 5 yrs ago, but today this deal is Chiarelli-like.
The Hall trade, while better, is still way too much. This team cannot afford to sacrifice that much of the future for a potential rental.
Luckily the team is in Holland's hands now, so building for the future is the focus.
Also, Brodziak is done, he is on the verge of retirement and hasn't skated in months.
Khaira is not an NHL centre, Granlund, and Cave for that matter, are much better than him at the position. He is a winger, and even then his game needs to be much better.
