But I'll give you a piece of info on the matter. Carter is not a true centerman, he is a true right winger. He was forced into that role because of Richards going down the pooper and he was the only one with center experience in the top 6. Martinez is a true 2nd pair dman and no where near the 3rd pair... He is also VERY clutch in the playoffs and a really good puck moving two way dman. Great shot blocker and penalty killer as well.

I get where you are trying to go, but it won't get you there, to be honest

Carter is waaay past his prime. He might be slightly better than Chiasson today and Martinez is a little bit better than Benning, but both are much older at more than twice the cost on multi-year contracts. I would've considered a deal of this magnitude for Carter & Martinez 5 yrs ago, but today this deal is Chiarelli-like.

The Hall trade, while better, is still way too much. This team cannot afford to sacrifice that much of the future for a potential rental.

Luckily the team is in Holland's hands now, so building for the future is the focus.

Also, Brodziak is done, he is on the verge of retirement and hasn't skated in months.

Khaira is not an NHL centre, Granlund, and Cave for that matter, are much better than him at the position. He is a winger, and even then his game needs to be much better.
