By that d do you mean getting rid of ceci and playing dermott in the top 4 because if so that is a good idea.

They could get more from another team. My guess is the ask is a 1st, Top 6 forward, and a top prospect. Plus maybe a 3rd. Werenski is still far from his final form

well they are getting a top 6 winger, a potential top 6 winger in bracco formerly a first round pick plus a second and a third, sda was also a third round pick and is looking promising, ceci is just a throw in for a roster spot and cap relief.

so you are saying kappy a first and a third in stead?

Werenski is 22 yrs old. Not the type of guy CBJ trades if they want to rebuild. Plus, I don't think the Leafs need another offensive d-man, he's redundant if you already have Rielly and Barrie. Should be looking at the cost of Savard if they're shopping in CBJ.

he is long term barrie is a rental, also he is better in barrie at zone entry defense and about the same as riley and muzin he would be a great addition. i agree they wouldnt be shopping him but if you have to overpay for him i think it would be worth it.

Obviously he'd be a great addition. I think an overpay has to be 'core-for-core'. Teams have cores and supporting casts. None of those pieces you're offering up would be core players to the Jackets so they'd get some cool pieces but nothing to really build around. Maybe if the Leafs involve someone like Nylander or Rielly then CBJ could be convinced that it's worth it, but that's probably something neither team would be interested in.

not a snowballs chance the jackets trade him until his free agent year unless the return is overwhelming.

That is underwhelming.

I don't know, this might be a bit biased, but I think the leafs should consider sacking Babcock before they make any trades. The leafs have had the same issues with their defensive game for the last three years, and there's been a ton of turnover with the d core over those 3 years.

Could some new d personnel improve the sitch? Sure, why not. But I kinda have the feeling that the leafs could have a d corps made up of top pairing d from other teams and our d game would still suck. As much as our d problems could be improved with new dmen, I'd like to see if we could make improvements with the d that we have before we start shipping out roster players. That very likely requires firing Babcock. I'd rather see that before trading Kapanen.
