I'd say that since we don't know for sure if he's going to be an elite goalie or not, his value's pretty high. He could bust just as much as he could be the next Carey Price. This uncertainty makes him very hard to trade and trade for.

Hard to say...that position is so volatile that I can't imagine anyone would blow their wad to get him.

I just doubt he'd have a crazy amount of value until he actually has a bit of success at the NHL level. AHL goaltending numbers seem to be (in a lot of cases) a very large product of where you're playing (see: Pickard/Sparks in 2018). Even look at guys like Jarry (no trade market) and Comrie (waived) this year, who are pretty good examples of goaltenders not developing the way that most expected.

Not saying that top skater prospects don't bust, but they just don't seem to at the rate that goaltenders do.

End of the day, Primeau could turn out to be outstanding, or not. I'd say someone might throw a 2nd to get him, but that'd be a gamble.

Primeau is a player MB doesn't even want to trade, so naturally you he'll put the price through the roof in order to not get people coming low balling him and essentially only leaves it open to a silly overpay. This is negotiation 101 tactics. Which even if he doesn't want to trade Primeau, he has to at least consider if the price is a silly over payment.

Its not that Primeau is untouchable or that he is guaranteed the next Carey Price but he is in that flux time of his career where no one really knows anything yet so you can't accurately value him. Just because a team comes knocking and offers a 2nd rounder and since Primeau was a 7th rounder, that it all of a sudden becomes a net gain of 5 rounds in a draft for you. That's not how it works. I think MB doesn't want to risk losing a player he feels COULD be really special but won't be for a while so there's no rush in trading him.
